and tape, was proud to offer one day of hands-on building clinics to our customers earlier this
month. Mike Sloggatt, remodeling specialist
and a nationally recognized author and teacher,
taught four sessions covering topics such as
Building Weatherization and Wall Performance.
Mike also offered tips on increasing jobsite
productivity, conquering new energy codes,
and improving your bottom line.
Event attendees enjoyed the
day and took home a wealth
of information, as well as
some fantastic door prizes.

Employee Spotlight: Cheryl Ellis
Cheryl Ellis is the Office Manager for our Anderson store. She says, “My favorite thing about working at GBS would have to
be the people. I love the relationships I have made in the 29 years I have worked here. Coming from a family as an only
child, you tend to adopt people along the way as “brothers” and “sisters,” and I’d say I have adopted quite a few that I
appreciate very much!
Cheryl has has been married to her husband, Gary, for 21 years. They
have two children: Jamie (18, just graduated from Abbeville
High School), and Chandler (14). The family loves their dog,
Petey, a 1½ year-old American Bulldog and Boxer mix.
In her spare time, Cheryl, also known as “Pearl,” enjoys working
in her flower gardens, spending time on the lake, and cheering for
the Clemson Tigers.
Cheryl’s favorite quote is the Serenity Prayer:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can, and
Wisdom to know the difference.

Firework Safety
As warmer weather arrives and Independence Day approaches, fireworks may be part of your various summer
celebrations. While the bright colors and flashing lights of fireworks are a great addition to a summer party, make
sure you use common sense and a few basic safety guidelines to keep the fun from turning into a fire or injury.

Buy fireworks from a reputable source; don’t alter them and don’t use homemade fireworks.
States have different rules for fireworks; if they’re illegal, leave them to the professionals.
Follow local laws when shooting and
report any illegal explosives.
A designated adult should supervise
all fireworks, and children should not handle them.
Use fireworks outside in a clear area away
from buildings, vehicles and animals.
Have water buckets or a hose nearby.
Soak duds and spent fireworks in water
before disposing of them in the trash.
Never consume alcohol before
shooting fireworks.
Light fireworks one at a time.
