THE WHITE TAILED DEER
• Its tail is about 10 to 22.5 cm long. The
white tailed deer could run as fast as 40
miles per hour and are good swimmers;
like a car in the city.
What do they eat ?
They feed on twigs, leaves, bark,
shrubs, fruits, and nuts. They prefer
living on open woodland, but they are
often found on the farming country.
The habitat
They live on land.They walk on their front
and back paws. This animal is not a meat
eater and it is not a carnivore. It is a
herbivore.
How does man affect the white tailed deers ?
• Man is the White Tailed Deer’s enemy
because they cut down their homes in the
forest.
• Man hunts them for fun.
Average lifespan
• Males are larger than females and grow
antlers from March to August . It is a
mammal . His average lifespan is 6 to 14
years . It’s size is 6 to 7.5 feet.(2 to 3
meters)
How tall is it ?
• When White Tailed Deers smell danger,
they shake their tail. It’s size compared to
a man; it is about as tall as 6 feet or 2
metres.
Where does it live ?
• The white tailed deer is known as the
Virginia Deer, or simply as the White Tail.
It is a medium sized deer. Native to all, but
five states in the United States, Canada ,
and Central America.
Offspring
• Their babies have spotted fur to help them
hide in the forest.
• They are called fawns.
• They drink milk from their mother.
What animals eat white tailed deers?
• Man, Wolves, Lynx, Coyotes, Bobcats and
Cougars are their enemies. They even eat
them.
Pollution
• The white tailed Deer is affected by the
water they drink and the droughts caused
by man.
