Farm/Art DTour – October 2-11
Contribute to a Farm/Art DTour Art Installation!
Madison artist Brenda Baker is collecting your no longer needed clothing, bedding or
towels, as well as any stories that might go with it to create a 3/4 mile clothesline along the DTour route. After
the installation, the clothes will be passed along to St. Vincent de Paul or other Sauk County charities for
distribution to those in need after the event. Baker is especially looking for colorful lightweight sheets.
St. Peters is again hosting an outdoor movie Saturday, September 12th at dusk at the ball park
featuring the movie “The Goonies.” This movie is about 4 kids who find a treasure map and of
course decide to find the treasure. So pack up the kids, chairs, blankets, and favorite snack for a
fun family night out. Tell your family and friends and we will see you at dusk. In case of bad
weather the movie will be seen in the basement of the church.
If anyone is interested in running the snack shack for a fund raiser let Sue Wobschall or Ruth
Roecker know.
Choir practice will start September 16th at 7pm. Come, join us.
Note from Mike
We congratulate Pastor Don on his 1 year anniversary. Pastor Don, Betty, and family are officially
moved into the parsonage they are a welcome addition to our church and the community. Pastor
Don is doing a great job.
With the Loganville parade and fireworks and the Badger Steam & Gas Show it tells me summer is
fast coming to an end. Where has the summer gone to? So that means Rally Day is fast approaching.
Rally Day is September 13th which is the kick off for Sunday School, which starts at 9am and worship
service starting at 10am.
VBS again had a fun and successful turn out this year.
Also LSS has completed their summer program this year. We thank everyone who helped out with
the program. This is one way we can honor our Lord and Savior Jesus; Matthew 20:28 “Just as the
Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Your friend in Christ

W/ELCA News
September Newsletter-W/ELCA
During the national Women ELCA Executive Board’s April meeting, Executive Director, Linda Post
Bushkofsky asked the board, “What will be our legacy? What will future historians write about Women of
the ELCA? It’s a rhetorical question, but one I challenge you to reflect on as we are called to live out the
mission and purpose of the Women of the ELCA.” That is a question we should ask ourselves. What will
St. Peter’s legacy be? Many of you remember your mothers and grandmothers active in the Ladies Aid. You
have memories of their activities and work in the church. What memories will we leave for our daughters and
granddaughters?
The Chili Supper signup sheets will be out soon. Check them out and sign up if you have extra tomato juice
from red tomatoes (not yellow), pickles, butter, bars, Nesco roasters or onions. Kitchen helpers, waitresses,
bazaar workers and hostesses are also needed. Posters will be available to take to businesses. And, we need
some able bodied men with muscles to lift the roasters full of chili! (We hate to admit it men, but we do need
you. )
Baby Care Kits (layettes) will be assembled at 5:30 PM on September 21 before the evening bible study.
Confirmation and high school students can earn volunteer credits by assisting. Just show up with willing hands
and your paperwork to be signed.
Kudos to Darleen, Joyce and Karen for distributing quilts and lap robes at Touched Twice in August; they
reported the items were greatly appreciated.
The Baraboo Fall Conference meeting is Saturday, September 26, at Dekorra Lutheran Church, W3099 Smith
Rd-Poynette. Program is on Music and Memory. It starts at 9:00 with registration and meeting to follow.
Lunch will be $7.00. A sign up sheet is in the back of the church and reservations are due September 20.
Blessings,
Carolyn Meyer
Co-Chairwoman
Starting September 13, 2015 Sunday worship will begin at 10:00 a.m.
See you all there
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ. Grace and Peace to you from God the Father; from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ;
in, with, and through the Holy Spirit. AMEN.
This month’s Bugle Call article for me will be a little different from my others so far. I have been asked by the
St. Peter’s Memorial and Endowment Board to provide information about what the Board does, and to distinguish
between the accounts for which the Board has oversight.
As you can probably tell from this paragraph, this article will be about money, and all of our stewardship of that
commodity. Do you realize in the Bible Jesus spoke more about money than any other subject except the Kingdom of
God? If it was important to Jesus, we must consider it important to us as well.
Matthew 6:19-20 reads as follows: Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and
rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth
nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Those are powerful words from Jesus, and are worth each of us pondering, considering, and meditating upon
where our hearts and our treasures really lie. As important as those words are, they are offered to you as thoughtprovoking grist for the mill, upon which we can ruminate and reflect. But they are not the focus of this article. The focus
of this article is the St. Peter’s Memorial and Endowment Board, its purview, function, and purpose.
As stated in our governing Constitution, revised September 23, 2013, certain Bylaws appear after chapter 19,
beginning on page 17 of the Constitution. The part that pertains to the St. Peter’s Memorial and Endowment Board
(referred to as the “Board”) begins on page 19, under title B.17.
The Board was elected at this year’s Annual Meeting, and the members have staggered terms ranging from one to
three years of service.
The Board was established for the purpose of overseeing two distinct and separate accounts: One for in-reach
(Memorials) which serve the needs of St. Peter’s; and One for out-reach (Endowments) which are generally distributed
outside the immediate needs of St. Peter’s.
People may donate monies or gifts in kind to either the Memorial or the Endowment accounts at any time. This is
generally not what we give in our offerings and tithes during worship services. The Memorial and Endowment accounts
are usually considered outside of our giving to St. Peter’s operating budget fund.
Please allow me to address the more complicated of the accounts first, the Endowment account. The Board
oversees this account, and is responsible for its proper investment and disbursement. All gifts to the Endowment fund are
comingled into the Endowment account where they earn investment interest.
Each year, the interest earned in the Endowment fund is disbursed according to the formula set forth on page 21
of the Constitution. 10% of the interest earned must be distributed to each of the following four areas: 1-children in the
community; 2-families within or beyond the community; 3-grants to ELCA colleges or universities or seminaries; and 4grants through programs within the South Central Synod of Wisconsin, or the ELCA.
The remaining 60% of the Endowment Fund interest can be given to any of the previously listed 4 areas, equally
or totally, as the Board determines. As you can see, the Endowment account has very specific rules for its use and
disbursement. The monies in the Endowment account generally remain in the Endowment account and are subject to the
rules the Constitution specifies. They generally cannot be used for other purposes.
The other account administered by the Board is the Memorial account. Gifts to the Memorial account may be
‘Designated’ or ‘Undesignated’. ‘Designated’ and ‘Undesignated’ Memorials are usually not to be used for operating
budget purposes. The operating budget is generally the focus of our weekly giving as our tithes and offerings, and
supports the budgeted items voted on and approved in the Annual Meeting.
As with the Endowment account, the Board invests the monies given to the Memorial account. Through specific
line item accounting procedures, gifts to ‘Designated’ or ‘Undesignated’ Memorials are kept distinct, although all of the
monies are comingled to maximize potential interest earnings. ‘Designated’ memorials are given for specific purposes,
such as the hymnal fund, or highway sign fund, or others as seen appropriate. ‘Designated’ memorials can only be used
for the purposes under which they were given, unless the donor of the gift agrees that it may be used for other purposes.
‘Undesignated’ Memorials are to be disbursed to enhance the ministry of St. Peter’s Church by providing
assistance to new ministries or ventures, consistent with the goals of St. Peter’s Church.
I hope that this article offers a bit of clarity as to the purpose of the Board. Please feel free to approach a Board
member or myself if you have questions.
God’s Peace to you.
Pastor Don
Vacation Bible School was a great success this year. We had about 30 plus kids at Camp
Discovery. We had four tents full of active and very enthusiastic kids. Each night we kicked
off with a prayer from Pastor Don, next the kids listened to a Bible Story, aka campfire story
led by Sue Wobschall, followed by campfire songs led by Kris Klemp. After that we broke
up into our tent groups; who were led by Junior Camp Counselors Jordan Crary with the
Slithery Snakes tent, Shelby Henke had the Campfire Party tent, Ross Roecker oversaw the
Kool Nature Tent, and Victoria Poole with the Nutty Squirrel Tent.
Each tent then was sent off to different workshops, which included; crafts, led by Ruth
Roecker, splash & dash games led by Lorinda Broughton, the kids also participated in amazing experiments led by Vicki
Baumgarten and her assistant Ephraim Albers. Of course you can’t go camping unless you have some yummy campfire
snacks which were prepared by Amy Hahn and her helpers.
We concluded Camp Discovery with a pot luck and program at the Kid’s Ranch which was very well attended. Thanks
for coming and supporting our youth.
A big thanks to all our Camp leaders, Pastor Don, parents, grandparents, and of course to all the boys & girls who came
and made the week a really fun time.
Hope to see you all back on Rally Day which is Sunday September 13th, starting at 9am. This is our kick off for Sunday
School. We have a great year planned for you.
Thanks

KFC NEWS
That’s right boys & girls it is back to Sunday School. Kicking off Sunday school is Rally Day September 13th starting at
9am. This is a fun day for our KFC kids. We will be playing games, singing, and eating a yummy snack, and singing in
church that morning.
Our starting rotation will be Noah and the Ark. This story is a favorite with our young people. The story goes where God
is going to destroy the world and every living creature in it because the world has become so evil. However God tells
Noah to build an ark and to take two of every living creature on the earth along with Noah and his family.
The rain came for 40 days and 40 nights and everything was destroyed except for Noah, his family, and the animals on the
ark. Once the waters had dried up the animals and Noah’s family got off the ark. God made a promise he would never
destroy the world with water again and put a rainbow in the sky as a reminder of his promise.
The main focus with this story is about Noah who is a faithful and obedient man. Noah had no idea what an ark was or
how to build the ark but God asked Noah to build an ark and Noah obeyed and got the job done. This is true in our
children’s lives and ours as well. Often God will ask us to do something challenging and if we trust in God we too can
accomplish great things. Second is God made a promise and God always keeps his promises.
As always we will need workshop leaders for this rotation. This is a great way to get to know our youth. I will provide
workshop materials. You are welcome to use it or come up with your own ideas. Contact me if you are interested. You
can call me at 608-415-3910

Spiritual Reflection for September 2015
What to Do First
I had another busy day ahead. As I drove to work I quickly reviewed my work to-do list, followed by my
personal errand list and my social activities list. My mind moved through the lists over and over wondering what to do
first, errands on the way in, at lunch, after work, call to confirm social activities, complete my paperwork projects before
meeting agendas, etc., etc. Well it wasn’t long before I was reminded of what to do first.
As I entered the building I greeted a man with a quick, “Good Morning, how are you today?” His response was,
“Better than I deserve!” I was deeply moved by his response and told him so. He said, “Only by the grace of God” and I
agreed. Only by the grace of God am I here in the first place. My quick rote prayer as I flew out of bed was certainly not
what God deserved. That is what I needed to do first, I needed to pray, I mean really pray!
How could I have forgotten the most important part of the day? I needed to talk with God about what he wanted
me to do with my day. My lists are worthless if not directed by the spirit living within me. How quickly I/we can get
consumed by the day to day activities of living and forget or minimize the role God plays in each and every minute of the
day.
I put my lists and obligations aside and turned my heart toward a conversation with God. I searched out one of
the Daily Inspiration websites and read from Isaiah 33:2, “O, Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength
every morning, our salvation in times of stress.” Now that is a morning prayer! I reworded Isaiah’s plea. Pour your grace
upon me. Give me the grace I don’t deserve. Meet the longing of my heart, Lord, to be guided through this day. Give me
your strength today to complete whatever you see as important for my day. Save me when I feel stressed.
Suddenly I realized there were no more questions on my mind about what to do first. I paused and noticed my
head was not reeling. My body felt less tense. I was beginning to relax and settle into the day before me knowing that
what needed to be done would be done as long as I stayed connected to my spiritual guide.
As I wrote this reflection I considered it funny actually that on my way into work the red light on my phone had
indicated that the battery was getting low. I smiled as I thought about how the comment, “Better than I deserve” proved
to be my indicator light alerting me that my spiritual battery was running low. I needed to have conversational prayer, to
plug into God’s word and be encouraged, strengthened, and charged up for the day ahead. I had been reminded of the
need to recharge my spiritual battery.
If your head starts whirling reviewing the lists of things you need to do, wondering what to do first I encourage
you to stop and consider whether your spiritual indicator light is on telling you your battery is low. Remember to take
some time each morning to have a conversation with God or read his word. Then reflect on your physical response. You
will have done what needs to be done first!
Questions to ponder:
What is whirling around in my head?
How do I know my spiritual battery is running low?
How do I recharge?
How do I trust God to guide me to what I need to do first?
