Nationalism as a cause of World War I

Nationalism as a cause of World
War I
• Misha, Murjan, Alexandra, Kagbe, and Rimi
were reading a text on the Causes of World
War I.
• Misha is the group leader and chose this text
because it was related to what we are
studying this unit.
“The Causes of World War I”
Misha: Let’s read here… (3 minutes later they begin reading)
Misha: Stop, we know this already! We know
Nationalism.
Rimi: Nationalism is when people have the same
culture and language.
Mr. Hobel: And we are reading about it again?
Alexandra: Yeah, this is “The causes of World War I”
Murjan: Here it says, Nationalism is a feeling of strong
loyalty to one’s country
Misha: So nationalism was a cause of World War I
Mr. Hobel: This is awesome. What you guys just did is
make a connection between topics.
• What is an example of Nationalism in Europe
in the 19th century?
• How can nationalism lead to conflict?
• Why is it important to make connections
between topics in Global History?
