Cavendish Green Mountain Snow Fleas Snowmobile Club, Inc. P.O. Box 139 Proctorsville, Vermont 05153 www.Cavendishsnowfleas.com January 2016 Email: [email protected] FLEA CALLER CHRISTMAS PARTY We had a great turnout for this year‟s Christmas Party! The group included folks who joined the Club a week before the party to three of the original group of friends who helped form the Club back in the 1970‟s. We were able to acknowledge and thank Jennifer Stowell and Roxie and Al Davis – and to hear their stories of early snowmobiling in Cavendish. Especially entertaining was Jennifer‟s stories of riding including a description of the female riders walking 10 ft. ahead of the sleds, laying down in the snow and rolling back toward the sleds to „groom‟ the trail! CLUB RIDE RAVEN‟S DEN STEAKHOUSE Manchester, VT Sat., Jan. 23, 2016 As always the Yankee Swap proved to be a lively experience with Clay Sides keeping the participants on track. We know what his job is going to be next year. Meet at Cook Shack 8:30 a.m. Ride leaves at 9:00 a.m. Thank you to the Wilsons for again opening their home and hosting the party, to Jared for coordinating the menu and to those who provided all of the delicious food! A MUST SEE VIDEO ***** COOK SHACK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED As soon as the weather cooperates the Cook Shack will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm. Please contact Jared (802-226-7494) if you can spend a day helping in the Shack. It‟s a warm, fun place to make new friends and help the Club, and it gets your name into next year‟s drawing for a Volunteer TMA! Do you have a dish that receives rave reviews from family and friends? Please contact Jared if there is a weekend when you could donate your favorite soup, a special sandwich, or dessert to enhance our menu. Jared keeps a schedule so please be sure to contact him before bringing food or coming to help out. ***** JANUARY MEETING Our next meeting is Thursday, Jan. 14th starting at 7:00 pm at the home of Dot and Pete Ramsdell, 369 Route 131, Cavendish. Hope you will join us! ***** Last year a Windsor County man lost his life snowmobiling in Coolidge State Forest. His family has created a video to remind folks to ride safely. The video is called “Mike‟s Story-Why Snowmobile Safety Matters”. There is a link to the video on our Facebook page or it can be found at www.YouTube.Com ***** HERE COMES THE TUCKER –NOW WHAT? Our groomers have given up counting how many times they have pulled a sled out of the snow because the driver panicked when they encountered the Tucker on the trail. An article worth reading and sharing with friends is – Etiquette for Encountering Trail Grooming Equipment – www.saferiderssafetyawareness.org/trail-groomingequipment-etiquette.html Our groomers always look for a safe place to pull over to allow folks to pass. It will make for a more pleasant experience for you and our groomers! ***** TRI-STATE RECIPROCAL WEEKEND This year‟s Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine TriState Reciprocal Weekend will be Jan. 29, 2016 through Jan. 31, 2016. REMINDER The weekend provides complimentary snowmobiling in the three New England states for VAST members that have a valid 2016 TMA, and all snowmobiles legally registered in New Hampshire and Maine. ***** DO YOU FEEL LUCKY? The Club will again be running a season-long 50-50 raffle with the winning ticket being chosen at our April Club meeting. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and can be purchased at the Cook Shack. Half of the money raised goes to the winning ticket holder and the other half goes into the barn Building Fund. Just print your name and telephone number on the back of your tickets and wait for a telephone call. Good luck! ***** ANOTHER DINNER ON US Brian and Kelly Weymer are the latest winners of a $25 gift certificate to The Chophouse for referring 5 new members/sleds to the Club. A new member is anyone who was not a member during the 2015 season. Mail or email the contact information to Karen. Once 5 of your referrals join the Club, you will receive the Gift Certificate. Remember each sled counts as a membership! CORRIDOR 106 IS CLOSED BETWEEN S 14 AND WR 68 SIGNS ARE POSTED AT BOTH LOCATIONS AND AT OUR COOK SHACK INFO ON ALL VAST TRAIL CLOSURES CAN BE FOUND ON THE VAST WEBSITE HAVE YOU CHECKED OUR WEBSITE? If you haven‟t had the opportunity yet, you should check out our website. Stacey Burkhardt, our website coordinator, has done a fantastic job with the layout and graphics. Stacey also created the new graphic which appears with Club ride info. ***** AVOID A DUI OR SUI VAST and the Vermont Sheriff‟s Department have asked that we remind everyone of the penalties for operating machinery on the trails while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. If caught on a trail which is also a public road, the arrest will be a DUI, as if in a motor vehicle. If caught on a trail which is not a public road, the arrest will be an SUI with a fine and points against your license. We encourage our Club members to be smart when operating your sleds on the trails. These penalties also apply to those who operate the groomers. CORRIDOR 5 TRAIL CLOSURE The Hurricane Riders have advised of the following trail closure on Corridor 5: “Until further notice, VAST Corridor 5 from the West Hartford Store north to Henderson‟s Camp is closed. To ride to Sharon on Corridor 5 North, you may pick it up by parking at the Jericho School House and getting on the trail there, go to Henderson‟s Camp and pick up 5 North from that point. Corridor 5 North of Henderson‟s will not be groomed by the Tucker until we can get through on the trail. Corridor 5 South of the West Hartford Store to Hartland is open, and you can pick up 125 West to Woodstock from the junction near the West Hartford iron bridge.” ***** OUR TRAIL CONDITIONS ARE POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE, OUR FACEBOOK PAGE, AND THE VAST WEBSITE
