Increase active transport every day Active transport is walking, riding or actively travelling to or from your destination. It is a free way to keep the whole family active every day and learn about your local area. Tips to help your family use active transport every day: Walk or ride with your family instead of taking the car when travelling a short way. Let children over two years of age be active and not always rely on a stroller. If you need to drive somewhere, park the car a short distance away and walk the rest of the way. Using public transport can be a cheaper travel option than driving. Teach your child traffic safety rules and practise these as a family by walking to local places such as the park. Hold your child’s hand when crossing the road. As a driver, a passenger and a pedestrian, be a good role model to your child. Let your child have fun along the way, such as jumping over cracks in the path or collecting things. ‘Filling the Gaps’ is a partner program of Kids –’Go for your life’, which is managed by Cancer Council Victoria and Diabetes Australia – Vic. ‘Filling the Gaps’ is managed by The Royal Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the Australian Catholic University. www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/kids Viet/Eng www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/kids Eng/Viet The whole family can enjoy using active ways to travel every day.
