NICE GREETE
RS
Want to explore Nice through new eyes?
Take a walk with a Greeter.
“Greeters” are people who love their hometown and wish to help others
discover it according to their tastes and points of view. This free service is
based on volunteer work.
The “Greeters” each have their own original vision of the city and a
strong desire to share it. The theme of the tour —shopping, markets,
neighbourhoods, gastronomy...— is less important than the human contact
and dialogue, which are the essential aim of such meetings (duration of
the tour: approx. 2 hours).
To take advantage of this offer, visitors can make a reservation 7 days
beforehand for a discovery tour with a “Greeter” selected according to
availability, language and chosen theme (online reservations only).

Chagall’s sculptures
from May 27 to august 28
Other exhibitions
Throughout his life, the inventive genius of
Marc Chagall (1887-1985) led him to confront
various artistic techniques: drawing, painting,
engraving, ceramics, mosaic, stained glass,
tapestry ... This wide range counts also an area
still little known to the general public of the artist:
sculpture. In 1950, when he moved to Vence,
on the Côte d’Azur, Marc Chagall discovered the
practice of sculpture.
With the exception of «L’Épaisseur des rêves»
presented at the Piscine de Roubaix in 2012, there
have been few exhibitions devoted to this theme.
The Marc Chagall National Museum, whose
collection has five exceptional carved stones,
has chosen to reveal this still unrecognized
aspect of his work during the summer of 2017.

July 1st and 2nd
In Nice, where the sea has always played an
important role, every day the fishermen take
the sea to bring back the fish that will feed their
families and supply the market of the «Marine»
or the Place Saint-François. Today, there are
only a handful of fishermen ...
In order to counter the fury of the elements
and invoke the clemency of Heaven, from the
Middle Ages they placed themselves under
the protection of St. Peter. Once a year, they
honor their patron saint by organizing a moving
procession in Old Nice. In the evening, the
fishermen’s guild gathered on the beach, burnt
the poorest man’s bark and offered him a new
one.
Still honored today, this festival is perpetuated in
the district of the Port.
