Preschool News
It is hard to believe that Wednesday, May 24th will be our last day.
This year has flown by! Several of our students will be moving into
public schools next year. Savannah, Mason, Molly, and Aaliyah will
be entering Kindergarten and others will enter the school’s full-day
preschool. Please continue to pray for our children and their families.
Pray for godly teachers and strong Christian friends.
Everyone is invited to our End of Year Celebration on Thursday, May
25th at 6 PM! The students will be sharing some songs and receiving
their certificates. We will have refreshments following the ceremony.
Please remind your friends and family that there are some openings in
our preschool for next year. They can print off the registration forms
from our website, www.boonesmillbaptist-preschool.org or I’ll be
glad to give them one. Just catch me at church or give me a call at
540-929-5059.

We had a wonderful "missions" night on Monday, April
24th. GREAT food, fellowship, and fun! Besides the business
portion of our meeting, where Dr. Goard had a dedication prayer
for our newly installed officers, we prayed for the missionaries
who had birthdays that day (from the Mosaic prayer patterns
calendar). We also enjoyed singing to our Praise Team’s
rendition of the hymn "Send the Light" and “All Over the
World.” We heard from our missionary speaker, Betty Easter,
who served almost 20 years in Macedonia, retiring and returning
home to Bedford, VA this past June 2016. She worked with the
Roma (gypsy) people group, who are the poorest of the poor in
Macedonia. They go from dumpster to dumpster searching for
food and any item they can wash up and sell.
Betty carries around one of those items given to her as a gift. It
is a carved, wooden statue of a man holding a cross and she was
told by the giver, "I found Jesus in a dumpster." She shared a
few personal stories as pictures of her ministry were seen on the
screen. A few facts she shared: PRAYER is SO IMPORTANT
to all missionaries. Don't limit yourself - God can use you in
any situation. Service to God is not a duty - it is actually FUN!
She is now involved in local missions because she stated, "I
may be retired from the IMB missions field, but I am not retired
from serving God.” AMEN!!
We also took up a WMU offering for the Family Resource
Center and collected $187.00 to help the abused in our
area. Thanks to those who gave to this worthwhile cause!

Food Pantry
Our food pantry is not only for our church members in need, but is for
the community as well, and is available as a resource for other
ministries within the county.
We currently have plenty of canned items. As the need arises, I will
ask for specific items (shampoo, cleaning products, etc.). Thank you
for your generous hearts! If you have any questions, please call the
church office and ask for Donna Lynch.

As you’re cleaning out your closets and getting ready for a new
season, don’t forget our Clothing Give-Away is Saturday,
August 5th. Please keep any unwanted clothes, shoes, belts,
coats, and purses. We will especially need men’s and children’s
clothing. Household linens can also be donated.
Last year we served over 600 people in surrounding
communities and this year we hope to reach more! For any
questions, please contact Lola Bush, 540-929-5059.
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you
have shown him as you have helped his
people and continue to help them.

A Note From Dr. G:
Jesus taught us how to pray in Matthew 6:9-13. This prayer
should serve often as an outline for longer times of devotion.
Thank God for His fatherly care. Speak to Him at length as
you would a good, good Father. "Our Father in heaven..."
Praise His name. Ask that your life--your actions, choices,
and words-- would point to the brilliance and power of His
name. "Hallowed be Your name."
Pray for God's kingdom to emerge in nations, families,
churches, work, and social structures: "Your kingdom
come. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven." Pray
specific prayers. And long (in prayer) for the return of Jesus
Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. Come, Lord Jesus.
Take everything, every need, to the Lord in prayer. Hold
nothing back. He knows all, but He commands us to ask.
"Give us this day our daily bread."
Confess every sin and pray for personal power over sin.
"Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." Resist the
devil and he will flee: "Father, do not lead us into temptation
but deliver us from the evil one." Close your prayer with
more worship: "For yours is the kingdom and the power and
the glory forever. Amen." Plug into the power of prayer!
Blessings!

AWANA
“Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned
to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They
are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to
another standard to which each one must individually bow. So
one hundred worshipers met together, each one looking away
to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could
possibly be, were they to become 'unity' conscious and turn
their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.”
― A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God
The Awana year has come to a close on May 3rd with our
Awards Ceremony. We had a very successful year averaging
30 kids each week learning God's word. Thanks to each and
every leader and helper, we couldn't have done it without you!!!
The mission field of the children of our church and community
is so important to God and he has equipped and blessed us so
much.
I believe that this is exactly what Jesus meant when he said
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I
among them.” (Matthew 18:20) By having two individual
persons “tuned” to the same spirit, the Holy Spirit, then He is
leading our thoughts, our beliefs and actions. Joining together
with one purpose can be so very difficult when we are all
distracted by different things and we are each carrying different burdens. Finding our peace in Christ alone allows us to be
free to worship Him! Let us, then, practice laying our personal
burdens, agendas, distractions and wants at His feet so that we
are free to worship Him. A friend of mine says that it is
important to unload the things we hold (blessings or burdens)
so that our hands are free to receive the next blessing God has
for us. I think this is beautifully illustrated when we worship
through music together. Some people feel free to lift their
hands to God in worship. This act of abandon says to me,
“here I am God; I have unloaded my hands so I am not
distracted before you!” Let us strive to be “Undistracted
Worshippers” because God is worthy of undistracted worship
and to offer Him anything less may quite possibly be taking
His name in vain.

Thank you to every parent who faithfully brought their children
to club each week and for the work you did at home in working
with your kids to help them memorize their verses. Your work
at home on the verses encourages them to learn God's word and
allows you teachable moments with them to share your faith
and knowledge. What you model at home becomes what the
children consider to be important!
We want to issue a challenge to the parents this summer: Using
your child's handbook, review the verses they learned this year
at least once a week. This will help to keep God's truth in their
long-term memory.
We are eagerly looking ahead to our September 6th startup for
the next Awana year. Mark your calendars now! If anyone feels
led to help with this ministry to our precious children, please
contact David or Rhea Jordan. We would love to find a place
for you to use your abilities, whatever they may be. You don't
have to teach, unless you want to. Helpers are always needed
for this very active ministry. Every club can use that extra
person to help maintain order, help with snacks, coordinate
snacks, work with game time, and help with check in. These
are just some of the opportunities available. How can the Lord
use you?

Life is busy. It’s a safe bet to assume that most of us deal with
this reality on a daily basis. Have you ever felt like there are not
enough hours in the day? I certainly have. Being busy is a fact
of life. Being busy, however, often affects our spiritual lives in
a negative manner.
On top of all our weekly responsibilities, church can be just
another obstacle in the way of finding rest. Unfortunately for
many of us, church is just that. In America, church has simply
become something we attend on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. In
many ways, it has lost its importance in the lives of believers.
Church, in the Bible, was never meant to be an event, a
building, or even an organization. It was meant to be a
gathering of local believers who met together for corporate
worship, strengthening each other in order to advance the
Kingdom of God. You can bet that the members of the
churches found in the book of Acts were largely close-knit,
transparent believers who enjoyed one another’s
fellowship. Picture it this way. Many New Testament churches
were under constant attacks from the nonbelieving world.
Imagine the depth of the relationships that these church
members had with each other because of it! Think about how
much more we could get out of “church” if we simply stopped
going to church, and instead, became the church.
You will never experience the blessing of what it means to be a
member of the body of Christ until you become an active
participant. Take some time this month to get to know someone
at BMB. Show up at a church event and see how you feel
afterwards. Reach out to someone and talk with them about
their lives. Be humble, transparent, and open to serving one
another. Point each other to Jesus. This is what a vibrant and
healthy church looks like.
In Christ,
Pastor Matt
