Script To help with structures:
Contestants, before we begin, listen carefully as I explain the rules:
During the round of competition, you will approach the microphone to answer the math fact
presented on the screen. If the math fact is answered correctly and within the time period, you will
continue participating in the round. If the math fact is answered incorrectly or not answered within
the allotted time, you will be eliminated from the competition. You will not be able to self-correct an
answer during your allotted time. The time for each round will begin as soon as the first math fact is
shown on the screen. If you are eliminated you will be guided to the waiting room until the Math Bee
ends.
The table below shows the skills and specifications for the District Math Bee by grade-level.

Tips for Parents:
1) Practice math facts with your child at home, as you are driving, waiting in line at the
groceries, shopping, etc…
2) Make practicing fun by playing card games to reinforce the operations. (Ex.
Multiplication War- A deck of cards is placed in the center, each player turns over a
card, and the player that calls out the product of the two digits shown keeps the
cards.)
3) Practice fluency with your child using flashcards and interactive online resources like
the ones listed below:

4th Grade Math Bee Competition:
For the District Math Bee competition, students will be shown gradelevel appropriate facts on a power point presentation, which they will
have to solve orally within a given time. The competition will consist of several rounds in
which each student will be given a designated time to respond. In each round,
students must correctly solve three facts to advance to the next round.
1st Round: 5-second limit to respond
Multiplication Facts to 12’s
2nd Round: 3-second limit to respond
Multiplication Facts to 12’s
3rd Round: 4-second limit to respond
2-Step number sentences with mixed multiplication and division facts Examples: 5 x 2 x
3 or 63 ÷ 9 x 2, or 6 x 3 ÷ 2
4th Round: 3-second limit to respond
