Discussion Boards
So that we can get to know everyone better, you should answer the questions on the discussion boards posted in the
Summer Assignment Folder on Schoology. Provide a paragraph-length response (3-5 sentences) for each topic, and
then make a comment on at least one other student's post for each as well. Two of your responses will be written
(typed), and two will be spoken (use the recording feature in Schoology). It does not matter which responses are
spoken or written, so long as you have 2 of each. All of your comments made on your classmates' responses can be
typed, but if you'd rather speak, you are more than welcome to do so.

Scavenger Hunt
For this section, you will need to complete a combination of the activities below in order to earn yourself at least
100 points by the first day of school. (the amount of points earned will be your grade for the assignment) Complete
as many additional assignments as possible in order to compete for some awesome prizes during the first week of
school! This part is optional, but the more you do, the more you can win! ¡Olé!

Bring in a menu from a Spanish-speaking restaurant. (+5 puntos if it’s not from a Mexican restaurant.)
Read an entire newspaper or magazine in Spanish. Bring it to class with a 5-10 sentence summary of each article
(at least 2, in Spanish) that interested you most.
Create flash cards for the expressions packet posted in Schoology. Write the Spanish expression on the front of the
card, and its English meaning on the back. (Study them too!)
Bring in the bulletin from a church (or other religious) service that you attended. Bring it to class with a 5-10
sentence summary (in Spanish) of what you learned.
Travel to a Spanish-speaking country, and bring photos and a souvenir to share with the class. Be prepared to give a
short presentation of your experiences.
Make a purchase at a Hispanic grocery store. Bring the receipt and the product. Write a short (5-10 sentence)
product review in Spanish.
Write a poem in Spanish on any topic that inspires you (at least 10 lines). Bring your poem to share with the class.
Switch your phone or tablet to Spanish mode. Take a screenshot to prove you did it. Make a list of at least 20 new
words you learned from doing so and bring it on the first day of class.

Watch an entire movie in Spanish and write a 2 paragraph review (1 to summarize and 1 to give your opinion) of
what you saw (in Spanish).
Post an update (in Spanish) to the Schoology discussion board about how your summer is going (5 points for post).
Comment on your classmate’s posts (2 points per comment).
DVR and watch a telenovela episode (or watch one multiple times online) until you understand it. Post a summary
of the episode (in Spanish). Don’t forget to include the name of the show!
Find your favorite YouTube video in Spanish and post the link to the Schoology discussion post. For 5 more points,
post a comment to someone else’s video in Spanish.
Tour the Museo del Prado or Museo Reina Sofía online. Find your favorite painting, and post it to the discussion
with a 5-10 sentence reflection in Spanish. Include its name and artist.

Post a photo to Schoology of you with a sign or billboard in Spanish. Include a Spanish caption to tell where you
were and what the sign meant.
Learn and tell a joke in Spanish. Film yourself telling the joke to someone and upload it to Schoology.
Learn and recite a work by a famous poet in Spanish. Film yourself reciting the poem, and include the name of the
poem and its author in your video caption.
Learn and sing a song entirely in Spanish. Film yourself singing (without the lyrics), and upload it to Schoologyinclude the name of the song and its artist in your video caption.
Make a video with some friends acting out a telenovela plot (either from an existing show or with a script of your
own). Upload your video to Schoology.
Post a video of you doing something interesting while talking or explaining it in Spanish. Your video could be
instructional or just for fun!
Annoy your little brother/sister (or anyone who doesn’t speak Spanish) by talking to them only in Spanish for an
entire day. Record and post their frustrated responses for posterity.
Perform a rap or freestyle in Spanish. Post a video to Schoology of your performance. Include the name of your rap
in the caption to the video.

have some free time and take the quizzes. You will earn one point per quiz, and the student with the highest average
will earn an extra 5 points (if there is a tie, all students that are tied will earn the extra points).
Register for an account on es.freerice.com Join the group Español AP OOHS, and begin earning free rice! For every
100 grains you win, you will earn 1 point.
Download DuoLingo on your phone or tablet. Play in Spanish and obtain a score of over 500EXP. Take a
screenshot of your highest score and post it to the Schoology media album. The points you earn for this assignment
will be your score divided by 100.
Tutor a lower-level student in Spanish for at least 10 hours (create a log sheet to be signed by the student’s parents
to keep track of your time).
Come up with your own ideas to use Spanish over the summer! Email Profe. Rock (in Spanish) for approval and
point values.
