That task may feel daunting when you stop and think about how much learning needs to take place. With that, we know that much can be accomplished with your support. Your role is key to your child’s academic success. Here’s how you can help: Establish homework routines. Review your child’s work with them when it comes home. Read to or with your child every day. Talk with your child about the importance of education. Explain how you use reading, math and writing daily. Encourage your child to dream about their future. Another way you can support your child’s learning is by attending school events, like our upcoming Parent Night on Tuesday, November 10th. This event will provide you with additional information about our school community, subject areas and offer you an opportunity to talk with school personnel. Together we can move students to soar to new heights. Go Hawks! Happy Fall, Jennifer Hetland Principal Veteran’s Day Celebration Our CSES Veterans’ Day Celebration will take place Tuesday, November 10th. Town Hall Meeting On Monday, September 21st, 2015 at Curtis Peterson Auditorium, our school district office held a town hall meeting to inform parents of our district’s exploration of an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) at the Middle School Level. The first goal of this meeting was to provide parents and staff with information about the IB Middle Years Program. The second goal was to hear from parents of their desire to pursue implementation of this program. If you were unable to attend, we encourage parents of students in grades 2-7 to review our website for resources on an IB MYP in our district in future years (http:// www.citrus.k12.fl.us/edserv/klauderm/IBMYP.html) Most importantly, we welcome your input in this web link survey: https:// www.surveymonkey.com/r/C9PGVZN Title I Citrus County Public Schools receive an annual allocation of federal dollars to provide resources to schools that have high percentages of children who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Those resources are used to improve student achievement through interventions, teacher training, and family engagement. Activities are aligned with the Citrus County Local Educational Agency (LEA) Plan, School-wide Plans, and School Improvement Plans. Part A funds are also used to provide services to homeless children, children in local institutions for neglected and delinquent children, and to ensure that non-public school students, their parents, and teachers receive equitable services. Our school receives Title I funds to assist students, teachers, and families. “In accordance with the Title I regulations, a copy of the School-Wide Title I Parent Involvement Plan and the School Improvement Plan are available for review in the school office, as well as the school’s website. Upward Bound How fortunate we are to have the Citrus County Rotary clubs continue their support for the 20152016 school year with our Upward Bound Award. The Rotary “Upward Bound” Committee suggests that our 4th/5th grade students be selected on the basis of significant improvement in their academic achievements. This may include attitude, attendance, grades or any other factors the school wishes to use in making the selection. They are looking for students that really need the pat on the back to show that the changes are recognized. In years past, we have decided that for the first two breakfasts, the students would be selected who had shown academic improvement and had overall good behavior. The third and last selection would show consistency in all areas of academics and behavior. We are proud of our first Upward Bound recipients for the 2015-2016 school year. Breakfast was held on October 15, 2015 and the following students were recognized: Robert Ventimiglia, Samarra Moody, Mark Soverns, Gabe Weedman, Joshua Neal, Matthew Ponticelli, Regan Hutton, Matthew Eldridge, Lydia Ramirez, Caden Simpkins, Brianna Atkins and Ariel Willis. Congratulations to all of these students. Science Fair News The 9th Annual Science Fair is on Thursday, December 3 rd. Citrus.k12.fl.us/cse The time for the December 9th meeting of the Citrus County’s School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) has been changed to 10:00 a.m. at the Technology Resource Center at the Lecanto School Complex. We invite all parents and community members to attend. SHAC “is an advisory group composted primarily of school, health, and community representatives who act collectively to advise the school district on aspects of child health as defined by the Coordinated School Health (CSH) Model.” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Please contact Student Health Specialist, Pam Carnevale, at 527-0090 for any questions regarding SHAC. CSE sponsors several fundraisers each year, including student pictures and Coupon Books, for different purposes. Profits from fundraising at CSE will be used, among other things, to purchase school wide needs, such as additional playground equipment, technology supplies, and instructional materials. A small amount of these funds may be used to provide food and other consumable items for faculty and staff sessions, staff appreciation and student recognition, throughout the year. We are always mindful that fundraisers are optional for students. We are deeply grateful for the support of our CSE community! Our Health Room/Clinic would greatly appreciate donations of boys and girls clothing. We also accept gently used tennis shoes. All sizes are needed.
