Alumni Happenings September 2016 Volume 1 Issue 1 A RACE OF MEMORIES: 100 YEARS AND GROWING NOVEMBER 6TH, 2016 The Sullivan University System Alumni Office has organized a wonderful event for our graduates on Millionaire’s Row at Churchill Downs. The day will be full of activities and events, including a fun Scavenger Hunt and trivia game, complete with some amazing prizes. Race 4 has been sponsored by Alumni Affairs and will be run in memory of deceased alumni. Special guests will include Sheila and Pat Day as we kick off our charity work with Mom’s Closet for this year. Sheila is the Founder and CEO of this wonderful organization that serves single moms. LOOK OUT! In August… • We had over 200 new registrations for the Alumni Association. There are currently 8,403 active members in our alumni registry. • We had a fun night out at the Louisville City FC game on the 27th. • We held an eMentoring Open House. • We implemented a few social media campaigns: Motivational Monday, Throwback Thursday, and Fun Fact Friday. • The Alumni Bulletin Board has been loaded up with some awesome Alumni News! Sullivan Louisville Sullivan Lexington Spencerian Louisville Sullivan University provided Wayside Christian Mission employees with free TB testing, saving the organization that cost. The National Center of Hospitality Studies – Lexington Campus recently had a visit from Dr. Renfro of the University of Kentucky, thanks to the Kentucky Beef Council. Teacher of the Year Rounding out October, they have organized a Haunted House at Gardiner Point, a Trunk or Treat in the parking lot of the College of Pharmacy, and a corn maze event at Gallrein Farm. On Tuesday, September 6th, the NCHS Lexington Campus sponsored a movie night to help culinary, travel, tourism, and hospitality students take a mental break from finals week. November 10th, there will be a Veteran’s Day Celebration on the Main Campus in the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza. Alumni are welcome to attend this event! Congrats, Marsha! Sullivan Ft Knox Funny Hat Week was a hoot at the Sullivan Ft Knox campus! It was cool to see students join in the fun! Pictures are up on their Facebook page! STAR of the Month: Marsha Royalty from Admissions! Congratulations to ALL campuses for helping us raise over $15,000 for the American Heart Association, and thanks to everyone who participated in the Heart Walk to help raise awareness for this cause! At the annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon 2016 Angie Crowder was named Teacher of the Year. She is a wonderful role model for her students and colleagues, and is actively involved in campus and community activities. As a veteran herself, she works with the Student Veterans on campus. She also participates enthusiastically in the Medical Camp for high school students, which is held during the Summer Break. Shoe Drive Project Dr. Tonnie Renfro initiated participation in the Shoes for Souls drive and was a major cheerleader for the project. Competition between departments contributed to the high level of success that was achieved. Jan McKenzie Gordon Scholarship In his last quarter of the LMR program Tim Livingston was awarded the Jan McKenzie Gordon Scholarship and was accepted into the Radiologic Technology AAS Program. This scholarship is a full tuition scholarship award presented annually to the most outstanding student at the end of their first three quarters who is pursuing their Associate of Applied Science Degree at Spencerian College. SCTD The Reverse Portfolio Fair was September 8th. This is a showcase of the Dynamic Web Development and Computer Graphic Design students’ portfolios. They also hosted a pulled pork fundraiser to benefit the Kentuckiana Heart Walk, and raised $421 for the Sullivan Tech Team! The Career Fair on August 24th yielded some good results: 28 Employers, 36 students, 7.34 positive contacts per employer, 4 interviews, 2 hires, 6 still in consideration. Spencerian Lexington Jackie Edwards was chosen as the 2016 Instructor of the Year for KACCS! Congratulations, Jackie! With the help of Sullivan Lexington and the Alumni Affairs Office, we were able to fulfill eight school supply lists of our students’ children, including backpacks. Career Services and Student Services from Spencerian Lexington and Sullivan Lexington joined forces for the 3rd Annual Etiquette Luncheon. The campus Career Fair brought 25+ employers to campus and several students scored on-the-spot interviews. LEX DIY, a free how-to fair open to the community, was held on campus for the 2nd year in a row. Louisa The Sullivan University Center for Learning – Louisa held a Credit Transfer Review Fair for students. There was also a booth set up at the Septemberfest in Louisa, KY on Saturday, Sept 10th. Northern Kentucky The Sullivan University Center for Learning – Northern Kentucky had an open house on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. *Information was provided by campus representatives. GEARING UP FOR CHRISTMAS Starting Monday, October 10th, we are launching this year’s outreach program to help Mom’s Closet prepare for the Christmas season. We will be collecting donations in the form of Kroger gift cards or money, so stay tuned for more details! • • • • Please continue to share your campus news with us!
