The Greatest Common Factor - To factor an expression means to rewrite the expression as an equivalent product. - The greatest common factor (or GCF) is the largest factor common to all terms in the polynomial Examples: Factor each polynomial. 1. 6 is the only factor all 3 terms share Factoring out is simply dividing the GCF out of each term Rewrite as product of GCF and remaining polynomial 2. -13 is the common factor All terms have -13 in common (can always factor negative if necessary) Factoring out a negative changes all signs on remaining polynomial 3. All have in common Divide each by the common factor Note the dividing by itself yields a 1, does not cancel out term Geometry NTI Day 4 GCF Assignment
