Children’s Literacy
“Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader”
This fall event’s focus is to it get more books into our children’s hands and in their homes.
Reading is one of the most important things for building a child’s future. Because we are one
of the poorest counties in Indiana, many families do not have the means to provide these
necessary tools for their children. There are many benefits to reading, such as mental stimulation, stress reduction, knowledge, vocabulary expansion, memory improvement, stronger
analytical thinking skills, improved focus and concentration, better writing skills, tranquility,
and free entertainment. All of these benefits can shape our children into better students and
better people.

Beechwood Park Pool Renovation Project
The Beechwood Park Renovation is nearing the final construction phase. The pump house is
framed, the stainless steel skimmer has been installed, with the completion of the filtering
system and new concrete deck remaining.
Here is what our Parke County kids can look forward to next summer:
1. Totally renovated Olympic pool
2. New diving board
3. Sunscreen station
4. Red Cross swim lessons
5. Party rental
6. Affordable family passes
The $400K fundraising goal for the construction phase has almost
been met, but funds for the slide, safe shaded areas, and additional
deck seating have yet to be raised, which have a price tag of around
$80,000.
