Second Grade Social Studies:
Character Traits Vocabulary Contract
You must complete four different activities. Choices are on the back. Two activities are due on Friday,
May 1 & two other are due on May 8th. Please make sure all work is complete. Color in each activity
as you complete it. There will be a vocabulary test over these words on Friday, May 8th as well.
1. Honesty: Telling the truth and not cheating.
2. Dependability: People who show dependability are people who do
what they say they will. You can count on them to get a job done.
3. Liberty: Freedom. People who work for liberty want to be free from the
control of others.
4. Trustworthiness: Means that a person can be trusted. A trustworthy
person does not cheat, lie or steal.
5. Honor: People who have honor are honest. They do what is right and
good.
6. Civility: Acting with civility means having good manners. It means
showing respect for others even if you do not agree with them.
7. Patience: People who have patience are calm when facing hard
problems.
8. Compassion: Understanding and caring about other people’s problems.
Helping others is a sign of compassion.
9. Good sportsmanship: Playing with a good attitude. It means not
bragging if you win or complaining if you lose.
Activities
 Write a short story using all of the vocabulary words. Underline the vocabulary words.
 Find a synonym and antonym for each of your vocabulary words.
 Draw & color pictures that represent the meaning of the words. Label your words.
 Use each vocabulary word in a new sentence. Underline the vocabulary words.
 Cut pictures or words from old magazines or newspapers that represent the meaning of
each word. Make sure to write the word beside the picture.
 Find the definition of each word in a dictionary, on www.wordcentral.com, or on
www.kids.wordsmyth.com & write any other definitions for the word, including part of
speech.
 Make a crossword puzzle using www.puzzlemaker.com. Don’t forget to include a word
bank.
 Make a flip book study guide for your vocabulary words.
 Create a Jeopardy game board using your vocabulary definitions & small sticky notes.
(Give answer, question would be… ex. What is recently?)
 Write a letter to a friend using proper form and include at least 4 words. Underline the
vocabulary words you used. You may use an online generator.
