Please feel free to contribute to the program displayed in the centre, in the ‘Parent Comment’ section, regarding
the programmed activities. The OOSH educators are also happy to answer any questions you may have regarding
your child’s development and progress at OOSH Care.
April Theme – Space OOSHvaders
This VC children will invade space to develop a greater understanding of what goes on beyond earth. Fun activities
have been programmed for an intergalactic experience. This April school holiday fun will be out of this world!
The focus this April VC will be on providing activities for the children to be confident and involved learners. The
programmed activities will be facilitated in a fun, relaxed and playful environment. William Carey OOSH uses the
My time, Our Place Framework for School Age Care in Australia to extend and enrich children’s wellbeing and
development in our OOSH setting. Expected outcomes as a result of this Vacation Care program are that:

Children develop dispositions such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment,
enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity.

Children use a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation,
hypothesising, researching and investigating.

Children transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another.

Children resource their own learning through connecting with people, place, technologies and natural and
processed materials.
Excursion
Further information about the excursion, including the permission note, will be sent out with the VC Confirmation
letter. There is no additional payment for this April VC excursion.
Please note that if you choose to send your child to Vacation Care on an excursion day then attendance at the
excursion is compulsory.
Harvard Park: Friday 17th April

Children will walk to Harvard Park at Prestons and enter the park from Braidwood Drive. The walk will take
approximately 15 minutes.
Children will be at the park from 10:15 am until 11:45 am, and will return to the OOSH centre by 12:00 midday.
Any child attending the centre on this excursion day must be present at the OOSH centre by 9:30 am.
This park excursion will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
There is no cost for this excursion, however, a signed permission slip is required.
Incursion
Special guests and exciting resources have been arranged for the OOSH children to be entertained on the
premises. Four incursions have been planned for this April VC.
Two of the incursions (Bake Zone, Earth Spacers) are included in the daily fee, and therefore have no additional
cost.
There is an additional cost for the Go Kart Wild ($12) and iSkies Cosmodome ($10) incursion activity. This
additional fee cannot be claimed on Child Care benefit. Children will be issued an armband on this incursion day.
White armband = NOT participating in activity. Coloured armband = approved (and paid) by parent to participate in
activity.
The Go Kart Wild and iSkies Cosmodome incursion permission notes will be sent out with the VC Confirmation
letter. Incursion payment should be made at the Uniform shop by Wednesday 1st April.

Go Kart Wild
(Wed 8 April): A full day of excitement as the children zoom around in their safe, sturdy and easy-toride pedal go kart around the school bus bay driveway. Helmets are provided for this low risk activity that is sure
to keep the kids entertained the whole day. Cost $12.
Bake Zone
th
Mr Morris, our guest professional baker, will guide the children to make Space Rocks.
These Space Rocks are the edible variety! The first step will be for the OOSH children to make a dark and sweet
bun dough and bake their Space Rock. Part two is decorating their creation with some special toppings. The third
and final step will be enjoying their delicious Space Rock. No additional cost.
(Fri 10th April):
Please be aware that the Space Rocks (bun and icing) will include dark food colouring and your child may have stained fingers
from kneading the dough and may possibly have unusual coloured 'solid waste' in the days after eating their bun. Please contact
the OOSH service if you would like to further discuss this activity.
Earth Spacers - Asthma
It is hard to breathe in space but it can be hard to breathe on Earth too!
Educators from Asthma Foundation Australia will visit our OOSH centre to deliver a practical and interactive talk
on asthma that has been especially tailored to meet our Space OOSHvaders theme. The talk will raise awareness
about asthma and how to help a friend who is having an asthma episode. Children will be given the opportunity to
use a practice spacer and asthma equipment in a safe environment under the supervision of the Asthma Educators.
No additional cost.
iSkies Cosmodome
(Mon 13th April):
Cosmodome is a huge inflatable digital theatre/planetarium showing IMAX-style
movies – and the iSkies Cosmodome is mobile and heading to William Carey OOSH! It’s a memorable immersive
experience with spectacular images zooming across the dome that will transport the children to an awesome 3D
world. An exploration of earth, space and our solar system – the Cosmodome is an enriching educational and fun
experience. The children will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of outer space. Not to be missed! Cost $10.
(Tues 14th April):
Kids Bring In
Wheels Day (Thurs 16th April): Children can bring in to Vacation Care, on the designated day, their bicycle or scooter
or any other ‘wheel’ toy that they enjoy riding. Parents, please help your child to label their ‘wheels’. Children will
enjoy a ride around WCCS, exploring the school, supervised closely by OOSH staff.
Children that bring in their ‘wheels’ MUST also bring in their helmet. A helmet is a legal requirement and therefore
children will not be allowed to ride around without a helmet on their head. It would also be great to see children
wearing their knee and elbow pads.
A signed permission note must be submitted for your children to enjoy this activity. The Wheels Day permission
note will be sent with the VC Confirmation letter.
Dress Up
Children must still wear appropriate clothing on dress up days, ensuring modesty and safety. No thongs or singlet
tops please. Shoulders must be covered and feet protected in enclosed shoes.
Relaxing Pyjama
It’s a wonderful and relaxing day when you can wear your pyjama all day! On this
dress up day, we’d love to see the kids relaxed and comfy as they stay in their sleep wear and come to OOSH just
as they are. Relaxing Pyjama day will have extra relaxing activities like watching movies and playing Wii. Bring in
your favourite DVD, board game or Wii game to play with your OOSH friends. Parents, please only allow your child
to bring in games and DVD’s that are appropriate for all children at the service. OOSH staff will withhold any
game or movie that is deemed to have inappropriate content. Please ensure your child's DVD or game is labelled
clearly with their name. No electronic devices to be brought to the OOSH centre.
Intergalactic
(Tues 7th April):
Calling all space cadets, astronauts, aliens and moon walkers. Intergalactic dress up
day is for you! Come dressed in your special intergalactic outfit. Didn't have time to get one ready… then create
your unique outfit at OOSH on the day. Bring in some recycled materials to create your outfit or use the materials
available at OOSH. A special activity will be run on Intergalactic dress up day - Galactic illuminated outfit. The

activity will include screen printing a space design onto a top or pants, with a special glow-in-the-dark paint. To
take home your own creation you will need to bring in your own piece of clothing or even a plain pillow case or plain
fabric bag. Children who do not bring in their own fabric will not miss out as they will help create a group OOSH
project.
Lunch order
Special lunches will be arranged by the service on specific days as per the program. There is an additional cost per
child, per lunch order. This fee cannot be claimed on CCB.
Subway (Thurs 9th April) $6 // Hotdog & Fries (Mon 13th April) $5 //
If your child is booked in on a lunch order day, the Lunch Order form will be sent out with the VC Confirmation
letter. Lunch order payment should be made at the Uniform shop by Wednesday 1st April.
Face painting, Crazy hair, Temporary tattoo, Painted nails
On various days, children will have the opportunity to have their face painted, their hair sprayed in crazy colours,
temporary tattoos applied to their skin or their finger nails painted. Please advise staff if you do not want your
child to participate in these activities.
Sun Safety
For the safety of your child, staff will adhere to a strict “no hat, no play” policy. Please ensure your child brings
their own hat (labelled with their name) to Vacation Care.
Your child must also wear clothing that covers their shoulders and backs – no singlets or spaghetti straps.
Sunscreen will be mandatory – staff will prompt your child to apply sunscreen to exposed areas of their body
throughout the day.
Shoes
Children must wear fully enclosed shoes to Vacation Care, even in hot weather. No thongs, sandals or open-back
shoes are permitted. It is a safety issue as children are involved in a variety of activities that require feet to be
fully protected.
Spare clothing
Your child is not thinking about staying clean and dry when they are having fun playing at Vacation Care. For your
child’s comfort, please provide spare clothing in their bag.
Should the OOSH staff kindly provide your child with alternate clothing, please wash and return as soon as
possible. We only have a small supply of ‘back up’ clothing that needs to be readily available.
We welcome your feedback and enquiries.
