Sights To See:
 National Mall Monuments
o Lincoln Memorial
o World War II Memorial
o Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial
o Korean War Veteran’s Memorial
o Plus Many More!
 Smithsonian Museums are conveniently located very close to one another and all of
the Smithsonian Museums are free
o The American History Museum is a common favorite, so that is a good one to
put on your list. The flag that inspired the Star Spangled Banner is not to be
missed.
o The Natural History Museum is another great one, with the Hope Diamond
and a great mummy exhibit.
o Air and Space Museum
o The American Indian Museum
o The Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
o The Freer Gallery of Art
o Among many others!
 Portrait Gallery. It is not located on the National Mall, but is easily accessible by
metro (the Gallery Place Chinatown stop). It is located in Chinatown, which is a great
area if you are looking for some good restaurants, more than just Chinese food!
 Ford’s Theater is always a good place to visit. They have guided tours and time
period plays and events.
 The National Arboretum for a relaxing out of the way activity.



Arlington National Cemetery is wonderful to visit when you have a good amount of
free time. It’s quiet and peaceful but still so much to see. Grab a map from the
Visitors Center when you first arrive and plan out what you would like to see while
walking around.
The Eastern Market is always a fun place to go as well as all of the streets that are
around it. Good variety of people and very much a community place.
If you’re looking for a break from all of the Museums during the day I would suggest
going through Boating in DC. They have two locations and lots of options for getting
out on the water. It’s always a fun activity and nice for the summer time. Be sure you
call in advance, reservations go quickly.
Places to Eat:
 Good Stuff Eatery – By the Cannon House Office Building – Burgers and Shakes
 We the Pizza – Next door to Good Stuff Eatery
 Sweet Green – Also nearby Good Stuff and We the Pizza. Good for a salad.
 Old Ebbit – a Historic Restaurant
 7th Hill Pizza – In the Eastern Market Area.
 Talban Inn
 Ted’s Bulletin – In Eastern Market Area. Has great homemade pop tarts.
 Eastern Market for brunch (the line is long here and I would suggest going early,
but then again I’ve only been there on Saturdays)
 Farmers Fishers and Bakers
 Founding Farmers
 There are a lot of great restaurants in China town such as: Oyamel, Ping Pong
Dim Sum, Rosa Mexicana, Matchbox, and many more.
How To Get Around:
 Walking is by far a personal favorite and preference. You’re able to see a lot
more detail and not feel rushed to catch a glimpse, and it’s free! You’ll need good
walking shoes no matter where you go in this city.
 Riding the Metro is a very convenient way to get around. A PDF of the map is
attached, but you can also find it online at the link. The Metro stops are very
conveniently located close to all of the most prominent sites. If you ever get lost
don’t hesitate to ask people around you. The fastest most reliable way to get
information is to ask the locals! We’re all really willing to help.
 Going by bike is another popular way to go. It’s easy and the Capitol Bike Share
program is very helpful when you need a quick way to get around. It’s simple and
you can rent bikes for several days, a half hour at a time. You’d be surprised how
fast you get around.
For both the Metro and Capitol Bike Share we would suggest getting the apps on
your phone during the time that you’re here. It will save you a lot of hassle and
time.

Uber. This system is similar to taxis. It’s done by locals and the cost tends to be
better especially when using Uber Pool. It’s incredibly simple and hassle free,
compared to the crowds on the Metro. Use Uber at night or when you’re too far
out to use the Metro.
