New Horizons Chapter CEREMONIAL TEAM TOTEM AWARD ORDER FORM CEREMONIAL TEAM TOTEM ORDERING NOTES: The Basic Totem Kit can only be ordered by OA members after completion or support of one ceremony. o Extra Kit items can be ordered when rank or status achieved. o All Kit items should only be ordered once (although a scout becoming an advisor could order a second kit to have separate ceremonialist and advisor totems, their choice). o A scout or scouter can earn beads prior to becoming an OA member, but they can’t be awarded until they complete their Ordeal membership – e.g., scouts can participate in a crossover ceremony while not an OA member. o The totem and beads are earned while (or after) earning the Neckerchief and/or Neckerchief Slide Award – i.e., they are earned concurrently (until you have earned both the neckerchief and slide). o Like the Indians, the beads tell the “story” of your history as a ceremonialist and your story will be unique. The more you participate, the longer your individual story becomes. You may wear your totem as part of your regalia and at any event were you are allowed to wear the OA sash. One Support Bead is earned for every ceremony where that support is provided by a person not in a principal role. A person can earn a support bead and participate as a principal for the same ceremony. The principal roles for the Arrow of Light and Crossover ceremonies are Chief, Brave and Ceremonial Advisor. The principal roles for the Call-Out ceremony are Legend, Singer, Echo and OA Coordinator. The principal roles for the Pre-Ordeal, Ordeal, Brotherhood and Vigil Ceremonies are Allowat Sakima, Meteu, Nutiket, Kitchkinet and Ceremonial Advisor. The principal roles for the Four Winds ceremony are Allowat Sakima, Kitchkinet, North Wind, East Wind, South Wind, West Wind and Ceremonial Advisor. The Arrow of Light and Crossover ceremony beads are earned (separately) in pairs: o One ½” Hairpipe Bead and the one ceremony bead are earned for the first ceremony performed. o One ½” Hairpipe Bead and the three ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of three ceremonies. o One ½” Hairpipe Bead and the five ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of five ceremonies. o One ½” Hairpipe Bead and the “five” ceremonies bead are earned for every two ceremonies thereafter. The Call-Out ceremony beads are earned in pairs: o One Catseye Bead and the one ceremony bead are earned for the first ceremony performed. o One Catseye Bead and the three ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of three ceremonies. o One Catseye Bead and the five ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of five ceremonies. o One Catseye Bead and the “five” ceremonies bead are earned for every two ceremonies thereafter. o The Catseye Beads are three different colors which signify which principal part was performed [Blue – Legend, White – Singer and Green – Echo], so a ceremonialist can earn different color beads by performing different parts. The Pre-Ordeal ceremony beads are earned in pairs: o One Small Chevron Bead and the one ceremony bead are earned for the first ceremony performed. o One Small Chevron Bead and the three ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of three ceremonies. o One Small Chevron Bead and the five ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of five ceremonies. o One Small Chevron Bead and the “five” ceremonies bead are earned for every two ceremonies thereafter. o The Small Chevron Beads are four different colors which signify which principal part was performed [Red – Allowat Sakima, Black – Meteu, Blue – Nutekit, and Green – Kitchkinet], so a ceremonialist can earn different color beads by performing different parts. The Ordeal ceremony beads are earned in pairs: o One Large Chevron Bead and the one ceremony bead are earned for the first ceremony performed. o One Large Chevron Bead and the three ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of three ceremonies. o One Large Chevron Bead and the five ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of five ceremonies. o One Large Chevron Bead and the “five” ceremonies bead are earned for every two ceremonies thereafter. o The Large Chevron Beads are four different colors which signify which principal part was performed [Red – Allowat Sakima, Black – Meteu, Blue – Nutekit, and Green – Kitchkinet], so a ceremonialist can earn different color beads by performing different parts. The Brotherhood ceremony beads are earned in pairs: o One Feather Bead and the one ceremony bead are earned for the first ceremony performed. o One Feather Bead and the three ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of three ceremonies. o One Feather Bead and the five ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of five ceremonies. o One Feather Bead and the “five” ceremonies bead are earned for every two ceremonies thereafter. o The Feather beads are four different colors which signify which principal part was performed [Red – Allowat Sakima, Black – Meteu, Blue – Nutekit, and Green – Kitchkinet], so a ceremonialist can earn different color beads by performing different parts. The black bead (for Meteu) is a Ghost Bead. Page 1 of 2 New Horizons Chapter CEREMONIAL TEAM TOTEM AWARD ORDER FORM CEREMONIAL TEAM TOTEM ORDERING NOTES: The Vigil ceremony beads are earned in pairs: o One Lewis & Clark Bead and the one ceremony bead are earned for the first ceremony performed. o One Lewis & Clark Bead and the two ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of two ceremonies. o One Lewis & Clark Bead and the three ceremonies bead are earned after performing a total of three ceremonies. o One Lewis & Clark Bead and the “three” ceremonies bead are earned for every ceremony thereafter. o The Lewis & Clark Bead is only in one color, so there are no beads by part. The Four Winds “feathers” are earned for each ceremony performed and do not differ by part. The “Performance” Beads are earned for every Call-Out, Pre-Ordeal, Ordeal, Brotherhood or Vigil ceremony performed and are worn in combination with the appropriate beads for the respective ceremonies, but ordered when the respective “pair” is earned. The “performance” beads help tell the story of how you earned the ceremony beads. The “performance” beads are attached above the ceremony beads and the “number” beads are attached below the ceremony beads. Advisors / Coordinators also earn beads in the same combinations as ceremonialists performing the ceremonies. o Assistant Advisors / Assistant Coordinators can also earn beads for every ceremony where they substantially contributed to preparations for that ceremony. o It is suggested that Advisors select the black color for the Pre-Ordeal, Ordeal and Brotherhood ceremonies, but color is at the option of the Advisor. o It is suggested that Coordinators select the white color for the Call-Out ceremony, but color is at the option of the Coordinator. o Advisors / Coordinators should consult the Chapter Second Vice Chief for any interpretation or exceptions to these rules.
