Last Friday, the 35th Annual House
Swimming Carnival took place on a lovely
sunny day in Mirboo North. Over 300
students attended from Grade 3 to 6 and
competed in at least 2 events. Students were
well behaved throughout the day and were
seen cheering on fellow House team mates
all day. In the end, Wightman ran away with
the win for the 7th year in a row. The Age
Champions were Mia Deenen, Jesse Helms,
Xavier Bolge, Gabby Perry, Nicolette
Wight, Rem Dal Pozzo, Jhett Brown and
Isaac Bolge. Well done to all students for
having a go and doing their best for their
House. Thank you to all staff for doing a great
job throughout the day to make the day fun
for the students. Lastly, a big thank you to all
parents that helped on the day. The carnival
cannot run without parents volunteering to
time races, put caps on or set up and pack up
the House shelters

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN
eSmart SCHOOL
Family Conferences
One method of building strong family ties is
the family conference. Let me explain how it
works.
When our children were aged between 6 and
10 we held family conferences. They weren’t
scheduled events and could be requested by
any family member – adult or child. Once a
time for the conference had been established
everyone was asked for agenda items.
Invariably the children wanted pocket money
and bedtimes included.
These conferences continued throughout all
of their growing years until they left home.
Topics included employment changes, school
results, moving house, clothing allowances,
household chores as well as bedtimes and
pocket money.
We believe we gained the following benefits:



An atmosphere where anything could
be discussed without pointing the
finger at anyone else
An increased vocabulary and also
greater understanding of other
people’s point of view [seek first to
understand and then be understood].
A ready-made opportunity to offer
praise and encouragement.
These times became fun and precious. We
could take the opportunity to encourage them
both individually and collectively, to discuss
their dreams and goals [even at the youngest
age] and to hold them accountable to what
they wanted to do etc.
Why not think through holding your own
family conference? Here could be a good
agenda topic: family conferences!
From the outset involve the whole family in
the concept, allow full freedom of speech and
ideas then even the youngest child can feel
valued [even more so if they are old enough
to speak].
Use this tool as a source of motivation for
everyone in the family – even yourself.
Leongatha Primary School is now an eSmart

you walk into the office area and we are very
pleased with our new accreditation.

SNAP SHOT WRITING from 5G
Crasssssssh! It sounded like a flash of
lightning. I was struggling to breathe, my heart
racing, my feet kicking like a scuba diver
swimming away from a shark. The waves
covering me like a blanket, I knew I was about
to drown.
Tahlia Arnason 5G
The baby had an ear piercing scream that could
make someone deaf. The baby had red puffy
eyes as if she'd been crying for days, weeks
and months. She was banging her head against
the wall she started to shake for a second it
was silent as if the world died. The silence went
on and on and on then it stopped as if someone
just pressed play. She was reaching for her
teddy but it was just out of reach. She started to
cry again but a bit softer you could feel her
getting tired. You knew she was longing for the
feel of freedom.
