Biography Project
Dear 4th Grade Students and Parents,
This month’s genre study is Biography. Each student will choose a famous American to
complete a report on. There are 4 parts to this project:
First, students will pick out a book on their famous American (librarians at the
Elmhurst Public Library will be available to help you find the Childhood of Famous
Americans or Who Was... series). While reading, students should take notes using the
attached worksheet. In-class reading time will be provided. Books should be read by
_____________________.
Second, students will create a model of their famous American using a hanger.
**See picture below. BE AS CREATIVE AS POSSIBLE! Attach items that help describe
your famous American and/or their accomplishments. For example, Walt Disney may be
wearing mouse ears; Betsy Ross may be holding an American flag.

Third, students spend time writing their papers in in class. As we did for CATW,
each student should TYPE their paper on their famous American at home. Papers are to
be written in first person. Time will be given in class to write the first draft. The
final copy must be typed in 12pt font (Arial or Times New Roman) and double spaced.
TWO printed copies. We will assign a due date for early February.
Finally, students may dress as their famous American and present their paper to
the class on ____________________________. Your presentation should stay within
the 1minute/5second time allotment. As in CATW, students should print a 3rd copy and
highlight what they’d like to read to the class. You will receive more details as we get
closer to presentation time.
