Year 4 / Spring 1/ Vikings
Activities chosen from the Learning Log should be recorded inside their homework books. Choose
two activities each week from any box. Make sure that at the end of the term you have chosen a
Literacy/ Maths and an ‘other’ activity. This is in addition to reading, comprehension, spelling
and times tables practise.
Literacy Activities
•Create your own Greek god and write adjectives
for their personality and appearance.
•Make a Viking related poster, using at least 8 2D
or 3D shapes.
•Choose a chapter from a Greek myth and turn it
into a script (like a conversation).
•Make a 3D shape using straws.
•Design a glossary page for a fact book, write
key words and what they mean. You should
make this about Greece, Soldier, Sparta,
Athens etc.
•Design a poster explaining when to use a
question mark, an exclamation mark or a full stop
to end a sentence.
•Pick a picture from the Vikings and write a
description of the scene.
•Write a diary entry in the ‘day in the life of a
Viking’.
•Research a riddle that you like , learn it and be
prepared to perform it to the rest of the class!
•Write an acrostic poem using the letters from
the word ‘VIKINGS’.

Creative Curriculum
Mathematics Activities
•
Make/draw a Viking longboat and explain what each
of the parts are.
•
Visit this website and create a Viking quiz about one
of the fact pages.
•
Design a poster explaining a Viking raid (where and
what happened).
•
Identify areas on a map where the Vikings settled
around the world.
•
Create a timeline from the start of the Viking rule to
the end.
•Practice counting in 1000s (forwards and
backwards) from any number.
•
Create a video/presentation, retelling a Viking myth
story.
•Create a timeline, using negative numbers.
•
Watch ‘How to train your dragon’ and design your
own Viking warrior, based on the film.

Music: Listen to a piece of music by Johann Sebastian
Bach and write a description of what you can hear in
the music.

draw and design your own.
•Research roman numerals and where they came
from.
•Practise quick recall of all tables, up to 12x12.
