POLYESTER
Why choose Polyester Pillows?
Polyester fill is most suitable for those who
prefer a firmer pillow and are a practical
option for easy care as they can be
washed in a washing machine. Polyester
is durable, resilient and has many different
qualities and feels.
Some polyester fill pillows are sanitised
(anti bacterial), while some are
manufactured with an anti microbial (antidustmite) fibre fill. This makes some
polyester pillows the ideal choice for
asthma and allergy sufferers.
Why choose Polyester Doonas?
There a number of reasons why consumers choose polyester filled quilts, often it is the
allergy friendly attributes but ease of care also makes it a popular choice.
Used mostly because it is durable, lofty, resilient and is machine washable. Polyester has a
lightness and does not feel heavy on the body when sleeping and can be described as “down
like” in feel, it provides warmth without weight.
Some polyester fill quilts are sanitised providing anti bacterial protection, while some are
manufactured with Bio-guard or Fresh Loft fibre, featuring anti microbial (anti-dustmite)
protection.
Why choose Polyester Protectors?
Polyester is the most common of fibre fills used in mattress & pillow protectors. The main
reason being the ease of care (washability), durability and loftiness provided from synthetic
fibre fills.
Mattress protectors can also provide a layer of comfort as well as protection for the mattress.
Similar to polyester filled pillows and quilts, mattress & pillow protectors usually feature antibacterial or anti-microbial protection.

WOOL
Why choose Woolblend Pillows?
Wool is an organic alternative to synthetic fill. Wool is flame
resistant and as a natural fibre it offers excellent moisture
absorbency, allowing the pillow fill to breathe, offering a more
comfortable night’s sleep.
Woolblend pillows combine the breathability of wool and the
loftiness and durability of polyester.
Why choose Wool Doonas?
Wool provides the perfect mix of strength and softness that
gives powerful feelings of safety, security and comfort. It feels heavier on the body than
synthetic fill so is ideal for people who like to feel snug in bed, or like the feelings of blankets.
Wool is warm in winter, cool in summer. Wool fibres trap millions of microscopic pockets of
air, and it is this air that keeps us warm during the coldest of winter nights. In summer,
wool’s other natural ‘temperature control’ mechanisms take over.
Wool can absorb up to 30 per cent of its weight in moisture vapour without feeling wet while
other synthetic fibres used in bedding can only absorb l-2 per cent of water before feeling
wet.

Absorbed moisture can be transmitted through the wool fibre to the outside of the bedding so
that it does not become saturated. Perspiration is not ‘blotted up’ from the skin but allowed
to evaporate there and so produce the mechanism which controls and regulates body
temperature.
However, most wool quilts are dry-clean only.
Why choose Wool Protectors & Underblankets?
Wool underblankets relieve pressure points and give the body more even support.
The pile is constructed to provide additional thermal insulation which, when combined with
wool’s unique capacity to absorb water vapour and then dissipate it in the air, helps to
provide thermophysiological comfort throughout the year.
Additionally, wool underblankets help to protect mattress surfaces from body oils and
perspiration, reducing cleaning and maintenance costs and extending the working life of
bedding.

MOULDED FOAM
What is Moulded Foam?
Moulded foam is made from conventional foam, which is a
urethane compound available in hundreds of different
densities and softness levels.
Conventional foam constitutes a different chemical
makeup to that of visco elastic, and doesn't contain
temperature-sensitive properties. Unlike Memory, what
you feel in any temperature is what you get!
Foam is created by injecting the urethane compound into
a mould of some sort, then ‘baked’ to make it into the
sponge cake-like product as we see in flooring, underlays
etc.
To make pillows out of conventional foam, it can either be carved out of a foam bun (a large
block of foam), or inject the urethane compound directly into a pillow-shaped mould. The
difference is like sliced cake vs cupcakes.
The main benefit in moulded foam is that the process of injecting the urethane compound
directly into the pillow mould, means that each pillow will have identical shape and density to
each other (quality is consistent). It also creates a stronger outer 'skin', which provides
durability and resists crumbling over time. Some also claim that moulded foam is more
comfortable than cut foam pillows.
Why choose Moulded (Conventional) Foam Pillows?
The difference between conventional foam and viscoelastic foam is simply in the viscous
structure of the two and the composition of the network of cells.
Conventional foam tends not to ‘stick’ to the body’s contours quite like Viscoelastic does, so
has more of a bouncy feel. Nevertheless moulded foam supports and comforts and is
perfectly adequate for most …. so long as you choose the correct density and shape for
suited for your sleeping needs.
Moulded foam can be manufactured in various shapes and sizes, so can accommodate to all
sleeping styles or needs.
The superb durability of moulded foam means that it can last for up to 5 years.

VISCOELASTIC FOAM
History of Visco-Elastic (Memory) Foam
Visco-elastic memory foam is a direct result of
space-age technology.
Developed during the 1960’s for NASA this product
was used to cushion and deflect the tremendous
effects of gravitational pull experienced by our
astronauts during take off and re-entry into the
earth’s atmosphere.
By way of its great success with NASA, the foam
began being used to cushion, protect and comfort
critically ill individuals in hospital intensive care units. It also provided outstanding healing
benefits and comfort to bed ridden individuals in hospital burn centers. As its fame grew,
other industries began using visco-elastic foam in car seats, cushions and a wide variety of
products. Soon customers, who experienced visco-elastic foam in hospital beds and other
sources, began demanding this product for their own use in sleep products. And the rest is
history!
Conventional Foam vs Visco-Elastic
Unlike "conventional foam" with its quick recovery – or bouncy feel, visco-elastic slowly and
automatically adjusts to your body weight and temperature.
This accounts for the way that visco-elastic foam actually reduces pressure points via its
ability to change shape slowly and shape what lies on top.

Visco-elastic foam is temperature sensitive, which is why it makes you feel as though you are
“melting” into it as you sit or lie down on the product. What this means: at a lower
temperature it is harder (or more viscous), and at a higher temperature it is softer and has
more bounce (or more elastic) – hence “Visco-Elastic”. Visco-elastic foam feels firmer under
normal temperatures.
Why choose Viscoelastic Pillows?
With its ability to automatically adjust to the body’s weight and contour, Visco-elastic foam is
luxurious to feel and sumptuous to sleep on.
It moulds to the body and supports, cushions, and comforts like nothing else … and quite
simply you have to ‘feel it to believe it’ because only then can you quite literally grasp its
wonderful pressure-diffusing properties.
The superb durability of Visco-elastic means that it can last for up to 10 years.

LATEX
What is Latex?
Latex is a milky white liquid composed of rubber particles
dispersed in water. This material is whipped with air to form a
foam, which is heated to produce foam rubber, or latex.
Latex is inherently hypo-allergenic, anti-microbial and dustmite resistant. Because it breathes to remove body moisture,
it keeps you warmer in the winter, and cooler in the summer.
Latex is not a plastic foam, like polyurethane or furniture
foam. It is a denser product made of rubber to last a lifetime.
Unlike urethane, latex will feel as good a year from now as it
does in the store today.

All Latex Is Not The Same
The latex manufactured by the state-of-the-art "Talalay" process (named after its inventor
Leon Talalay) at Dunlopillo, has long been widely regarded as the finest type of latex
available.
Why choose Dunlopillo?
The Talalay process is not dictated by a chemical reaction but relies on a far more precise
production process to deliver superior resilience, consistency and comfort.
The unique uniform open cell structure of the genuine Dunlopillo
"Talalay" process latex ensures:

CHOOSING THE RIGHT
PILLOW
Pillow choice is very personal. Some people like a soft pillow
that moulds to their body and other people want a firm pillow to
support their head and neck.
Pillows vary in softness and loftiness or height. You need a
pillow that sits in the crevice between your head and shoulder,
without raising or lowering your head. Your sleeping posture
should be the same as your correct standing posture.
An incorrect pillow can result in poor posture, neck pain and
headaches. You should select a pillow based on your body
size, favoured sleeping position and your personal preference.
Medical conditions such as allergies, asthma and back pain
should also be taken into account.

How often should pillows be replaced?
Pillows should be replaced when they no longer provide adequate support for your head and neck.
The life span of synthetic-fill pillows is six-months to two years. Foam and Latex pillows last from 5 to
10 years. Frenkel Textiles recommends the use of pillow protectors to increase the lifespan of your
pillow.

The Importance of a Good Pillow
As your head weighs 4.5-5.0 kilos, you need a material that will support it for the eight hours
or so one is asleep without losing its shape or collapsing. The Dunlopillo latex pillow is ideally
suited for this purpose, being soft, supportive and gently resilient. It does not lose its shape
during the night whereas the average fibre pillow, after a short period of time, is not properly
supportive and tends to collapse and easily flatten.
A good pillow is essential to good sleep, and should keep the neck and spine in alignment
during the night. The size of a person and their sleeping style will also influence the type of
pillow required.
A pillow which is too soft will allow the neck to slip, causing spinal curvature, as will a pillow
which is too high or too firm.
Using too many pillows to
create height causes the skin
to crease on the top of the
neck while the spine curves
upwards slightly.
Too low or think a pillow
causes a skin crease on the
underside of the neck at the
base. The line of the spine in
the upper back and neck will
curve downwards towards
the mattress.
The spine in your upper back
remains level with the
cervical spine in your neck
for ideal comfort and support.
There is no skin crease and
the pillow or pillows are
tucked into the
neck/shoulder.
When a new bed is purchased, as the matt sleep surface does not yet have the usual body
impression worn in over months and years, the alignment of the spine and neck is often
affected, which may cause back and neck soreness.
Purchase of new pillows with a new bed is therefore recommended, so that both back and
neck are correctly supported.
