Unmet Financial Need for this Scholarship___________________________
Nanticoke Indian Awards Guidelines
Graduating Seniors (College & High School)
Seniors will have until June 30th of the graduating year to submit their names
and other requested information. Also, candidates who receive a GED are
encouraged to submit their names. In the event, the senior/parent does not
submit their name by the deadline; they may be ineligible to receive the award.
The Scholarship Committee will try to award each graduating senior a gift of
$25.00 from the Nanticoke Indian Association Scholarship fund.
Nanticoke Indian Scholarship Guidelines
Scholarships will be awarded to full-time students yearly, based on the
individual’s financial need and their ability to maintain qualifications and
satisfactory progress, as determined by the Nanticoke Indian Scholarship
Committee.
Applicants must be a senior high school/GED graduate and must have evidence
of being accepted to an accredited institution of post-secondary education.
Screening and guideline updates will be done by the Nanticoke Indian
Scholarship Committee with the concurrence of the Tribal Council.
All applications should be sent directly to the Nanticoke Indian Association and
will be forwarded to the attention the Nanticoke Indian Scholarship Committee. It
will be their responsibility to review the qualifications of the applicants and make
recommendations to the Tribal Council.
The application must contain a budget including additional expenses that might
occur (uniforms, equipment, etc.) to be reviewed by the Nanticoke Indian
Scholarship Committee.

A Letter of Acceptance from the institution the applicant wishes to attend must be
submitted with the application prior to any disbursement of funds. Also, a copy of
the applicant’s official college registration and class schedule must be submitted
prior to the disbursement of scholarship funds. The scholarship will be applied to
tuition, room and board, books, transportation, lab fees, and student activities. It
is the student’s responsibility to notify the Nanticoke Indian Scholarship
Committee if the student chooses to attend a different institution from the initial

Applicants will be instructed to apply for the scholarship by June 30th of the
particular year. Notification of the award will be made to the student by August
15th of the same year.

application submitted. The funds will be sent directly to the college of the
student’s choice for ultimate disbursement.
In general, participation is limited to four (4) years and to those enrolled in
baccalaureate, associate, or master degree programs or toward the completion
of the vocational or other educational program in which enrolled.
General Guidelines
1. Candidates must be an “active” member of the tribal association to qualify
for the scholarship. Membership must be established or re-instated six (6)
months prior to June 30th (scholarship application due date).
2. The scholarship fund must maintain a balance of $3,000.00 at all times. In
the event, there is no money contributed above this amount no
scholarships would be awarded for that year. Exceptions must be
presented to the Tribal Council.
3. The maximum amount the committee would award each year would be
$3,100.00. This is not inclusive of the amount of the $25.00 gift for
graduating high school/college seniors. The committee may make
adjustments if extra funds become available during the school year.
4. Each member family is asked to contribute $50.00 per year. If
contributions are not received, the money cannot be distributed.
Fundraisers are encouraged to keep the scholarship balance maintained.
5. High school/GED/College graduating seniors will receive their awards
first. Candidates must be an “active” member of the tribal association to
qualify for the $25 graduation gift. Membership must be established or reinstated six (6) months prior to June 30th of the graduating year.
6. Candidates must submit their names, mailing addresses, and interest
before June 30th of their graduation year to qualify for the graduating
senior award.
7. Each candidate must submit a Letter of Interest (minimum of one page
essay) on their goals along with a transcript of previous year’s grades for
consideration of the scholarship award.

8. Financial need (unmet) is taken into consideration for awarding purposes.
9. Candidates must maintain a 2.5 GPA in an associate/bachelor’s degree
program and 3.0 GPA in a master’s degree program.
10. Associate/bachelor's degree candidates must be registered for at least
twelve (12) credits; Master's degree candidates must be registered for at
least nine (9) credits.
Nanticoke Indian Scholarship Awards Policy
Nanticoke Indian Scholarships are awarded to worthy and deserving students
who are graduates of Senior High Schools or GED recipients to assist them in
financing their education beyond high school. Consideration is given to
academic merit and financial need in making awards and in determining the
amount of these awards.
These scholarships are intended to augment students’ other resources for
educational expenses. The number of qualified applicants and the funds
available may not permit making awards in amounts sufficient to meet total
college expenses for a full school year.
In general, these scholarships are not awarded or renewed:
(1) For more than four (4) years;
(2) To students in academic difficulty who are not making normal progress
toward the appropriate degree or the completion of their educational
program.
Policy
(1) Each recipient is expected to pledge volunteer time to the tribe/community
if at all possible each year.
(2) Each candidate has to show proof that they are enrolled in college by
submitting the transcript, schedule of classes, and the bill.
(3) Each candidate will have to complete a Letter of Interest (one page essay)
and the appropriate application forms.
Page
6
(4) First-time applicants and current participants must apply annually to be
considered for any scholarship funds.
(5) One year is not contingent upon another year in guaranteeing that the
candidate will receive money the next year. There is a possibility the fund
would not have adequate money every year.
(6) The Scholarship Committee will review the guidelines, policy, and
application forms annually to make revisions/recommendation(s) to the
Tribal Council as necessary.
