Nanticoke Indian Scholarship Awards Policy Nanticoke Indian Scholarships are awarded to worthy and deserving students who are graduates of Senior High Schools or GED recipients to assist them in financing their education beyond high school. Consideration is given to academic merit and financial need in making awards and in determining the amount of these awards. These scholarships are intended to augment students’ other resources for educational expenses. The number of qualified applicants and the funds available may not permit making awards in amounts sufficient to meet total college expenses for a full school year. In general, these scholarships are not awarded or renewed: (1) For more than four (4) years; (2) To students in academic difficulty who are not making normal progress toward the appropriate degree or the completion of their educational program. Policy (1) Each recipient is expected to pledge volunteer time to the tribe/community if at all possible each year. (2) Each candidate has to show proof that they are enrolled in college by submitting the transcript, schedule of classes, and the bill. (3) Each candidate will have to complete a Letter of Interest (one page essay) and the appropriate application forms. Page 6 (4) First-time applicants and current participants must apply annually to be considered for any scholarship funds. (5) One year is not contingent upon another year in guaranteeing that the candidate will receive money the next year. There is a possibility the fund would not have adequate money every year. (6) The Scholarship Committee will review the guidelines, policy, and application forms annually to make revisions/recommendation(s) to the Tribal Council as necessary.
