Sandringham School
A Specialist Arts and Science College
On Friday of this week, Gallery Rouge is kindly
sponsoring the first BeauSandVer Art Exhibition, displaying artwork from across Beaumont, Sandringham
and Verulam Schools. The exhibition is open to the
public all next week so if you are in town, why not pop
in and view some of the work on display. It is of extremely high quality and demonstrates the talent across
the three schools.
The first of our House Competitions starts this
week with House Drama and a report will be given in
the next edition of the Sandprint. The House competition provides an opportunity for students to take the
lead and work across year groups towards a common
purpose.
Next Monday evening in the SandPit Theatre the
Music Faculty will be showcasing the musical talent of
students in Years 7 – 9 with the Lower School Music
Recital evening. This is always a really enjoyable
event with some stunning talent on display, so please
try to come along if you can and support the students.
After half term, we will be holding the first of two
key events aimed at supporting Year 11 students in
making decisions about their future beyond the age of
16. On Thursday 7th November all Year 11 are invited to hear about the BeauSandVer post-16 Consortium
and what is on offer across the three schools. We will
be explaining what courses you can study and how the
Consortium operates to ensure you get the best possible
choice of subjects from those on offer. The evening
will be held at Sandringham (7.00pm) and Verulam
(8.00pm). Letters of invitation will go out to Year 11
and this evening is also open to any external students
considering joining our Sixth Form.

National Awards for
School Support Staff 2013
The National Awards for School Support Staff provide
schools with the opportunity to recognise the contributions that support staff, individuals and teams make to
the success and achievements of the overall school
environment. Support staff are in many cases the
unsung heroes of a school ensuring the smooth running
of activities so that there is no disruption to the
teaching. a
Early in October, in a glittering ceremony at the Park
Plaza Hotel in London two of our Support Staff members won prizes.
Our school Librarian, Margaret Southgate was awarded
Distinction in the NASBM National Awards for the
„Lifetime Achievement 2013‟. Well done Margaret.
Also, Sandringham's Senior Science Technician
Christine Page was awarded Distinction in the NASBM
National Awards for Technician of The Year 2013.
Congratulations Christine.
Anna Sutcliffe’s dancing success
Congratulations to Anna Sutcliffe of 7K. She took part
in the National Annual Grand Finals of the ISTD Dance
Competitions and came 5th in her solo dance, 4th in the
pairs and got to the semi-finals in her Rock „n‟ Roll
dance.
She will be dancing in 21 performances of the Aladdin
pantomime in December at the Radlett Centre.
Well done to Anna and good luck in the pantomime in
December.
BeauSandVer Art Competition
The first ever Art Competition across the BeauSandVer
Consortium is taking place over the weekend of Friday
18th to Monday 21st October at the Gallery Rouge in
Chequer Street, St Albans. Just before the summer
holiday, the Year 12 Art students in each of the schools
were given the challenge to prove how good their artwork
was and to see if it was suitable for being displayed in a
real art gallery. The work that has been produced by the
students across BeauSandVer is amazing and covers a
wide range of subjects. If you would like to go and see
the work, and to see how high the quality is, please visit
the Gallery Rouge at some point over the four days when
the artwork will be on display. If you wish to attend the
Friday evening viewing (7.30pm – 9.00pm), please send
an RSVP to the gallery itself. www.galleryrouge.co.uk

Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
Last week, 26 Year 12 students completed a 3 day
expedition for their Silver Duke of Edinburgh on the
South Downs, Sussex. They were very fortunate with
the weather and enjoyed some lovely scenery. The
students have completed their training expedition and so
were fully prepared to navigate their routes in the area.
They had prepared varied menus and all excelled in their
team work. Every student has also been working hard
on the 3 other areas of the Award; Service, Physical
Recreation and Skill. Although some students found the
expedition a real challenge, many of them are intending
to go on to complete their Gold. Next weekend, a group
of Year 11s are walking the same area to complete their
Silver Expedition.

Netball
The Year 9 Netball team travelled away to Roundwood
Park, where they played two games; a league match
against their „A‟ team and a friendly against their „B‟
team. In the first game, the girls battled hard, coming
up against a very evenly matched „A‟ team. There was
end to end action with some fast and furious play from
both sides, however, Sandringham eventually came out
as the victors, winning 9-7. They then went on to dominate against the „B‟ team, beating them 15-2. Overall
the girls played incredibly well, but MVP was Rebecca
McShane who put in an outstanding performance in the
centre court, making some fantastic interceptions and
was an all-round play maker.
Rugby
On Thursday the Yr 10 team played St Clement Danes
in the Natwest Vase in some very tough conditions. The
team battled exceptionally hard all game with a fantastic
display from Tom Goodall, who was rewarded with a
try after bursting through 4 defenders. Dan Goldingay
was excellent again on kicking duties, calmly slotting a
conversion from a very wide angle. Didier Osindero
came on as a replacement in the 2nd half and was superb
both with and without the ball and Josh Farraway continued to dominate across the pitch. After the allotted
time the scores were level and the game went to extra
time. We went up early in the additional time and as the
final whistle grew closer the game looked increasingly
more comfortable, however in the dying seconds after
some continued pressure St Clement Danes managed to
cross the line and take the win. The game was an excellent display of rugby and once again the boys conducted
themselves professionally throughout and played with
passion.
Football
Our Saturday fixture this week was against The Hemel
Hempstead School. Our Yr 8 and 10 team travelled
away and both games saw goals early on. The Yr 8s
went down 1-0 very quickly, however the team got together and worked exceptionally hard to take the victory
6-4, with goals from Brandon Cane (4) and Gwil Park.
The Yr 10 game was a tighter affair with Tom Goodall
netting twice, once in both halves and a very late goal for
Hemel gave us two away wins. At home the Yr 7 team,
after their defeat in the week to Simon Balle wanted to get
back to winning ways. They did not disappoint and took
the victory 5-4, clearly in need of some defensive work.
The Yr 9 team played some very good football ahead of
their National Cup game by winning 4-1 in emphatic
style. The scorers were Ashley Willing (2), Oliver Russell and Hayden Kemp-Robertson to seal 4 victories out
of 4. Well done to all of the boys involved.
The 1st XI had two fixtures in two days last week. On
Wednesday they travelled to Hounslow for their 3rd round
National Cup fixture. The conditions, including the pitch
weren‟t to suit us and were definitely not expected. The
team conceded early on through some defensive errors
and after equalising almost instantly then finished the half
2-1 down. The second half was similar to the first half
with some poor defending and the side dropped their
heads. With 10 minutes to play a goal from Jacob Trigg
and Toby Parker almost got us back into the game, however there wasn‟t enough time to make up for the shaky
defending. On Thursday the team played the 1st round of
the County Cup against St. Michaels, who have won the
competition a number of times in the last few years. After
going 1-0 down through some poor early defending, the
opposition quickly established control of the game. We
spent the majority of the first half chasing the ball and had
very little possession, however just before half time Jonny
Entwistle pounced on a Luke Foster free kick to equalise.
The second half was very similar to the first with St.
Michaels dominating possession, however against the run
of play Foster broke free from his defender and struck to
make the game 2-1. With 10 minutes to play and under
constant pressure the game was levelled and taken to extra
time. After the first 7 minutes we had conceded again and
almost given up hope of reaching round 2. With seconds
to run on the clock Toby Parker received the ball inside
his own half and ran at goal, he beat 4 players and calmly
finished passing the floundering keeper to take the game
to penalties. With the ascendency going into penalties
Chris Hoad was able to save twice and seal the victory. A
well fought game earning the team a place in the second
round against Kings Langley on Friday. Well done boys.

Author visit
We were delighted to welcome Dawn Finch, the author,
last Thursday during Children‟s Book Week. Many of
the Year 7 students knew her as she used to be the
Librarian at Wheatfields school.
Dawn came to promote her first book called
“Brotherhood of Shades” that was published in
September. She gave us an interesting insight as to how
she created the storyline and the characters. There was
a lively debate in her question and answer session
including a reward of a chocolate eye ball! Following
her talk, seventy of her books were sold and personally
signed by Dawn.
We hope that her enthusiasm and her passion for
reading will inspire our students to read more or maybe
even to become a writer of the future!
