PORTS OF CALL
VOLOS, GREECE
A lively city of Neoclassical architecture with a restaurantdotted waterfront on the Pagasitikos Gulf, Volos marks the
halfway point between the Greek capital of Athens and the
country’s second major city, Thessaloniki, but it warrants
recognition of its own. The Archaeological Museum of Volos
beckons with its vast collection of artifacts from the Bronze Age
to the Hellenistic Period.
EPHESUS/KUSADASI, TURKEY
The port of Kusadasi, recently a fishing and farming village,
is today a resort town offering lovely beaches and plenty
of shops. Nearby, is the legendary ruined city of Ephesus,
a veritable museum of Greek and Roman history with
impeccably preserved relics from its ancient past. Here you’ll
find the Library of Celsus, the incredible Terraced Houses,
and the remains of the Temple of Artemis—one of the Seven
Wonders of the Ancient World.
PATMOS, GREECE
Known as the “Jerusalem of the Aegean” since St. John arrived
in A.D. 95; Patmos is an island of strong traditions and a rich
history. Home to the 11th-century Monastery of St. John that
was founded in his honor, the monastery is one of the richest
and most influential in Greece. A tranquil Greek isle echoing
with the sounds of over 300 churches’ bells, Patmos is also
home to quaint towns and unspoiled beaches.
RHODES, GREECE
Rich in history and steeped in legend, the largest of the
Dodecanese (or Twelve Islands) is located on the eastern
edge of the Aegean Sea. Home to an ancient acropolis, whitewashed towns and the medieval walled city known as Rhodes
Town, the island’s stunning scenery is of equal splendor—
dreamy beaches and an average of more than 300 days of
sunshine each year.
IRAKLION (CRETE), GREECE
From the stately Church of Agios Titos and the ornate
Venetian Loggia to the sturdy 16th-century Koule Fortress
overlooking the sea, Crete’s capital city abounds with
impressive monuments. In its historic core, centuries-old
buildings and open-air cafes hem bustling squares where
Venetian and Turkish fountains cast their lazy spray.
Remnants of ancient civilizations are on display at the
renowned Archeological Museum and Palace of Knossos—a
true masterpiece of Minoan architecture.
SANTORINI, GREECE
Famed for its spectacular sunsets, the island’s distinctive
crescent shape is the result of an enormous volcanic eruption
thousands of years ago. Behold a panorama of indigo-domed
churches and chalk-colored homes clinging to stony cliffs
along the caldera, black sand beaches dotted with pebbles
beside deep, azure waters, and breathtaking rock formations
climbing from the volcanic floor— here is the epitome of
Grecian beauty.
MYKONOS, GREECE
Amid the shimmering waters of the Mediterranean is the heart
and soul of the Cyclades: Mykonos. Situated on an island of
the same name, the town artfully balances glitz, glamour and
classic Greek culture with its labyrinth of cobblestone streets
and chalk-white houses beside classic blue-domed churches.
Shore excursions are not included. In each port of call you
may select from a variety of optional shore excursions for
an additional charge, some of which are referenced in the
descriptions above.
Go Next will offer a unique collection of Oceania Cruises shore
excursions; available for purchase approximately 4 months prior
to departure.
