Creating Fill in the Blank Questions
Fill in the Blank answers are scored based on an exact text match. Answers are not case sensitive,
but are evaluated based on spelling. An example might be, “_____ was one of the Founding Fathers
of the United States, the first Postmaster General and a man who earned the title of the ‘The First
American’.” Phrase the question so that it is apparent where the answer goes in the context of the
question.

acceptable and then, when the form has updated to show that number of text fields, type in
the versions of the correct answer which would be accepted. For example, in the question
used in this example, where the answer is Benjamin Franklin, it would be a good plan to
include ‘Benjamin Franklin’, ‘Franklin’, ‘B Franklin’, "B. Franklin" and "Ben Franklin" as
correct answers (Figure 5).
