Fourth Grade Math 1st Grading Period (3 weeks) Power Objectives: Academic Vocabulary: Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers. (4.NBT) Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. (4.NBT) place value numerals greater than less than sum addend algorithm difference equal to round base-ten digit expanded form standard form word form millions thousands borrow carry Place Value to the Millions Place Enduring Understanding: Essential Questions: Equate a number’s word name, its standard form, and its expanded form. Understand that the position of a digit in a number represents place value. (The PLACE determines the VALUE.) Know that we use a base-ten number system (10’s are 10 more than 1, 100’s are 10 more than 10, ect.) Know place value is essential when comparing numbers both verbally and symbolically. Computational fluency requires efficient, accurate and flexible methods for computing. How does understanding the structure of the number system help you solve problems? How does the position of a digit in a number affect its value? In what ways can numbers be composed and decomposed? How are place value patterns repeated in numbers? What are different models of and models for addition and subtraction? How can you represent rational numbers in multiple ways?
