Radicals Review Simplifying Radicals - 2 Ways #1: Make a factor tree and look for pairs. #2: Find Multiples of perfect squares Multiplying Radicals: 1. Outside times outside. Inside times inside. 2. Simplify Radical when possible. 3. Two of the same radicals cancel out to the inside number. **Distribute and FOIL as usual** Rationalizing Radicals: You are not allowed to leave a radical in the denominator of a fraction!!!! 1. Try to simplify the fraction. You can simplify outside to outside a radical as well as inside a radical to inside another radical. 2. Multiply both the numerator and denominator by the radical that you want to get rid of. 3. Simplify radicals and fraction if possible. *Always be on the look out for perfect squares to pop up for a quick solve* Ex. Rationalizing with a reciprocal: When you have a binomial in the denominator, multiply by that binomial but with the opposite operation.
