Celebrity Student of
the Week :
Bradley did a great job
as our celebrity last
week.
This week Bodyn will be
our celebrity! We can’t
wait to learn more
about him.

Open House will be held on Thursday, September
10th from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
In Social Studies, we are going to start learning
about maps and globes. This week we will be
reading a story called Me on the Map. Students will
be expected to know what city, state, country,
continent, and planet they live on by the end of the
unit. I will send home a study sheet with your child,
so that you can practice at home. It is very
important that the students start to develop
awareness of where they are in the world.
Spelling Tests: All students did an excellent job on
the spelling test this week! I was quite impressed
with how good at they were at taking the test
online as well! Thanks for helping your child study!
Writing: The students have done an excellent job generating ideas.
They also wrote a short autobiography for you to read at Open House.
This week we will focus on writing a main ideas. Students will write
main idea and supporting detail sentences about a set of objects.
Reading Weekly Focus:
Last week, students learned how to use post-its to tag their reading. Students were learning how to
track what they were thinking about while they were reading. If you have some post it notes at home,
ask your child to show you what they have learned! They should be able to use the post-it notes to
remind them of connections, predictions, questions, and feelings they had while reading! This week
we are going to work on retelling stories and strategies for reading tricky words.
Spelling Words:
1. read
2. tuck
3. clock
4. instead
5. deck
6. knock
7. feather
8. crack
9. sock
10.wreck
11.come
12.where
13.away
14.here
15.two
**Test Friday!
The words are
entered into
www.spellingcity.com
/amykreiser/. I
changed the lists back
to Kreiser because
Bell was hard for the
students to find, so
this week is Kreiser
Week 2. This would
be a great way for
your child to practice
at home.
Math:


We are starting Unit 1 this week! Students will be learning
about odd and even numbers. We will also discuss place
value. Students will learn how to read and write numbers in
expanded form, standard form, and written form.
Facts: Please keep practicing addition facts with your child!
The goal is for a student to know all the facts for the
numbers 1-10 without having to count on their fingers or on
use a number line. This skill will become especially helpful as
we start two digit addition and subtraction. Thanks for your
help! The more practice the better!

Computers & Passwords:
We are using the computers during Tech time and we are also using the
Kindles in our classroom. Please check with your student and make sure
that their headphones are still working. Students will get passwords for
several sites that we use. It is very important that they do not share their
password with other students.
All students have been setup with an account on Sumdog. They will login to
their account this week. Feel free to let your child practice on this website
at home. The website is www.sumdog.com.
**We will also be using Lexia this year! It is very important that students only
login to Lexia at school. It is a research based program and we use the data
provided from the program to make important decisions. Please do not let
your child login at home!
