Greenwood Lake, Warwick and Beyond

Greenwood Lake, Warwick and Beyond
See mountains, farmscapes, and the 9-mile long Greenwood Lake as you ramble
through Orange County’s beautiful southwest corner. Allow plenty of time to taste
the local fare and explore the charming villages of Greenwood Lake, Warwick and
Sugar Loaf. Start at the intersection of old Route 17 and Route 17A just below
Southfields.
At the traffic light on old Route 17, turn on to Route 17A. You’ll pass the Tuxedo Ridge
Ski Area and site of the New York Renaissance Faire, held weekends during August
and September.
Continue approximately 6 miles, then turn left on Windermere Avenue to arrive in
Greenwood Lake. A right turn on Route 210 will give you great views of the 9-mile
long lake. The shore is dotted with marinas and restaurants. The Breezy Point Inn
which features an enormous outdoor deck is a popular stop. Just down the road, beautiful
views can be enjoyed at the New Continental’s dining room.
Loop around the entire lake. Where Route 210 ends, continue on West Milford, NJ County
Route 511. Turn left on Awosting Road. Then follow East Shore Road and Sterling Road
along the lake back to Route 17A.
Turn left on 17A and head west toward Warwick winding on the Appalachian Mountain
Range over the top of Mount Peter. Take a rest at the Bellvale Creamery where you can
taste handcrafted ice cream and enjoy a panoramic view of their dairy farm and the Warwick
Valley landscape below.
Continue on Route 17A to the intersection of Route 94. A right turn will bring you to the
quaint Village of Warwick where you’ll be met by an assortment of antiques shops,
boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Then, for more unique shopping, take a right hand turn
at the traffic light at end of the Warwick shopping district and head 6 miles northeast on
Kings Highway (Orange County Route 13) to Sugar Loaf Art and Crafts Village. Leather
goods, jewelry and pottery are just a few of the fine handmade offerings to be found here.
Stop at the popular Barnsider Tavern or the Cancun Inn for some refreshment before
heading home.
