Roasted Garlic

A Sprouting Garlic Experiment
Can we grow a plant without a seed?
You can use a clove or a piece of garlic—or even a small purple/white/golden
onion. These plants are actually called bulbs. They have little roots at their
bottom, they are really stems.
Put it in a cup with some wet cotton. Leave it and observe the changes. Watch
out for a plant called mold. (If you get that, throw your experiment away and
then you need to try again.) Keep the cotton moist.
Here is what we found out: some sprout roots, some sprouted roots and stems
and even leaves! Some didn’t grow.
You don’t always need a seed to grow a new plant!
Roasted Garlic
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
METHOD:
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degree
2. Peel away the outer layers of the garlic bulb skin, leaving the skins on the individual cloves intake.
Using a knife, cut off ¼ to a ½ inch, of the top of the cloves.
3. Place the garlic heads in a baking pan. Drizzle a couple teaspoons of olive oil over each head. Make
sure each head is well coated. Cover with foil. Bake 400degree for 30-35 minutes, or until the cloves feel
soft when pressed.
4. Spread on toasted bread---crostini. It may taste different than you thought! The plant has sugar for
food. The sugar changes when you roast it in the oven.
