EUNICE KIM, violin Biography A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, violinist Eunice Kim has been proclaimed “just superb” by The New York Times and “a born performer” by Epoch Times. A winner of Astral’s 2012 National Auditions, this season Ms. Kim debuts as soloist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Bakersfield Symphony. Recently, she appeared at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts as an artist on the Evnin Rising Stars series. She has also appeared as soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Louisville Symphony, Seongnam Philharmonic, and Jersey City Philharmonic. Ms. Kim made her solo debut at the age of seven with the Korean Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, Korea. Her NAXOS recording of George Tsontakis’s Unforgettable with the Albany Symphony Orchestra will be released in 2017. Eunice Kim performed for the United Nations and Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Bohemian National Hall and at the Henry Kissinger Prize Ceremony at the American Academy in Berlin. She participated in the inaugural season of the Tippet Rise Arts Center (2016), where she is now a frequent guest artist. Ms. Kim has been featured as a soloist at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall as a part of the Curtis Chamber Orchestra’s Photo: Claire McAdams residency with Krzysztof Penderecki, performing his Duo Concertante. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Kim has appeared at Music at Angel Fire, Music@Menlo, Ravinia’s Steans Institute of Music, and Marlboro Music School and Festival. She has collaborated with such prominent artists as Miriam Fried, Nobuko Imai, Peter Wiley, Gary Hoffman, Ralph Kirshbaum, Cynthia Raim, and eighth blackbird. She is the former violinist of Ensemble39, a contemporary mixed string and wind quintet devoted to commissioning new music and pushing the boundaries of the concert experience. Ms. Kim has been partnered with The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Department of Education to perform in outreach series. She has also been a teaching artist for the William Penn Residency at schools in the Philadelphia area. She has performed and taught at numerous international music festivals, most recently at the Teatro Del Lago Festival in Chile and the Valdres Music Academy in Norway. Eunice Kim began studying violin at the age of six with Wei He in the preparatory division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music under Ida Kavafian, where she was the recipient of the Rose Paul Fellowship. At Curtis, she served as concertmaster of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, a mentor in the Curtis Community Engagement program, and was awarded the prestigious Milka Violin Artist Prize.
