This wig represents more than
a mere bit of prestige - it was worn
by a friend of Norb's who once
played a big bit in a big hit. The
fact that she lent the same to our
friend only proves how strongly he
is liked by the other party.
Surely some of youse m~untaineers at our "Hill Billy Party" has
seen the said wig somewhere unaccompanied by human haid. Dear
Norb is half way between a banana
peel and a serious accident trying
to locate it.
Ef eny of youse folks no where
it air pleze to call Norb et his home
or his plase of bizness.

any serious consequences.
Did you ever see so many iucs? And they
weren't water jugs either. It was a good opportunity to let your hair

Now we're going to let you come to a party and wear your best bib

Bowling Begins For Hawleyites
The bowling season got under wayan
the first of October. There
are more members bowling this year than ever before. There are two
teams of five couples each bowling on Wednesday, two on Thursday, and
four on Friday night, all at the Creve Coeur Club. This makes eighty Mt.
Hawleyites bowling on teams every week.
Bowling will be from October I to March 27 with two weeks out for
the Christmas holidays, making a bowling season of twenty-four weeks.

Another golfing season has ended - at least officially. We hope
there will be many nice golf days in November but there are no more
regular golf days.' Our luncheon on September 30th was the last event
on our schedule.
On September 2nd we had a 3-club cross country event which was
won by Marguerite Hubbard in the first division, Edith Wilkins in the
second and Blanche Triebel in the 9 hole group.
On September 9th we had breakfast on the picnic grounds and
started a one club match. It rained before anyone finished in the first
division. Mabel Furey won in the second division and Eleanor Lehr in
the 9 hole.
On September 16th we again had rain and there was no play.
September 23rd was Consolation Day and we had a gorgeous golf day.
Berniece Pinnell came Gut ahead with a score of 101 - net 75.
75 girls attended our final luncheon at which time we awarded the
trophies won during the season. Ringer score for September was won
by Cleta Merrill in the first division and Ruth Gift. in the second.
Door prizes were won by Lee Glatz, and Kathryn Black.
Prizes were given to the girls who. played the most 18 hole games
during the season. Lorette Lively, a newcomer to Mt. Hawley, won with
59 games. M. Hubbard was close behind with 58' games and Maxine
Williams was 3rd with 49 games.
I want to thank everyone for their cooperation this year. I have
enjoyed the season and hope you all have approved of the schedule of
events which your committee planned.

EDITORIAL NOTES
This recent show of Indian Summer has brought out the Hawleyites
in unusual numbers. Not only do
they find the course in good condition, but they find few leaves to
make ball hawking a premium ability. Mt. Hawley does make a good
full season course.
The new tee for number 13 is just
behind the old tee and a bit elevated.
This fine move makes the hole
tougher not only because
it is
longer, but because it opens up the
view to the out of bounds and the
hollow.
The change of number four tee
might be called a grand compromise; for it is right between the
two old tees. It gives a straight
away shot at a green that most of us
find hard enough to hit.
Len Fritz really turned in a fine
job on the Hill Billy Dance. There
was a good turnout of members and
the members really entered into the
spirit of the hills. It was probably
the best affair of the year - certainly
the most surprisingly enjoyable ..
Doc Steward, our new president,
is probably the White Hope for 1944.
With two new presidencies to his
credit this past month he seems the
only logical rival to F.D.R. in these
parts. Oddly enough, as president
of a credit bureau, he will be quite
prepared for the greatest prerequisite of being president - unlimited
credit.
Now that Walt Stein is our new
secretary we should see more o,
him. The Caterpillar girls will suffer,
but their loss is our gain.
It is surprising how good our
course looks from the air. From 500
feet up its green design is really a
thing of unusual beauty.
If you
want to be still prouder of your
course take a bird's eye view.
Marion Inwood did herself more
than proud at the "Hill Billy" dance.
Not only did she win first prize, but
she stayed in character all evening
and looked" more like the hills than
the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Harold Pinnell also did a complete
job from jug to jumpers.
His
shootin' iron was a fearful thing to
behold. His jug, however, was a joy
to hold - bottoms up.
Others who did an unusually
good job were:
Mr. and Mrs. Sei tz , Mrs. and .Mrs.
Howard Steele, Todd Wilkins, Norb
Overstolz and Glena Franks.
