Some things I’ve learned in the past 9 years:
• Maintaining lost weight long term is HARD! But so worth it!
• Maintaining a healthy relationship with food is both difficult and worth
pursuing
• Vitamins and minerals are CRITICAL, complicated to get the regimen
just right, and change with the more we learn about deficiencies!
• Keeping long term follow up appointments keeps you on track
• If you are struggling, just call your TEAM
• Some are nervous to call if they are struggling, but the team is always
there to help you get back on track!
• Those who ask for help when they need it, get help!
• The resources are HERE, just ASK!
• We learn more every single year… stay in touch!
As your Program Coordinator, I look forward to serving you in so many new
ways! I’ve been collecting notes and ideas over the past several months, and
I am ready to keep this program thriving and moving in a positive direction!

Eat This, N∅t That
Oatmeal provides you with a source of both protein and fiber, and as we know, protein and fiber help us to stay FULL for
LONGER. Most flavored, instant oatmeal is high in added sugar, but some people choose it because plain oatmeal can often
taste bland. “Oat Fit” offers a cinnamon roll and maple & brown sugar instant oatmeal that gives you flavor without all the
added sugar – there are 13 grams of added sugar in Quaker Oats Instant Oatmeal compared to 0 grams of added sugar in Oat
Fit Instant Oatmeal! Find this product on the cereal aisle by other oatmeal products, so you can Eat This, Not That!

Meet…Shannon!
I started my journey at 331 pounds, a 27 yo mother of 3, and a full life
to live that my weight and health issues were holding me back from! I
was taking 3 different blood pressure meds and living with shortness of
breath and pain all over. So I set off for a change! I knew I needed
surgery, the diets were not cutting it for me I needed that restriction. I
knew this was my answer and I was ready for the change and
challenges. A week before my surgery I went to my tattoo artist and
told him I wanted my surgery date tattooed on me because I knew it
would change my life for the better.
I had my surgery 3/12/14, and since then my life has been forever
changed, but it’s been far from easy! After getting my gallbladder out
and developing a B1 deficiency; this was the hardest part of my whole
journey. My legs just refused to work, I was depressed, and needed a
cane to walk!
My MUSC family got me
some B1 shots and the
weight came off fast! It was
unreal, I began working out
and after 18 mo, had a
tummy tuck 12/11/15. I now
have a flat stomach with the
cutest belly button! I’ll
forever be grateful - it was
tough but I’d do it all over
again. The bariatric team at
MUSC saved my life and
gave me a 2nd chance!
