year! Can’t even expressed how
exciting it is to be part of such a dynamic
group of students and educators!
The first day of school, I meet with each
grade level for 20 minutes each during
Dodger Time. During this time I let students know a little about me and then
talked about how we were going to live
out our theme, TOGETHER WE RISE: Raising the bar, closing
the gap, believing the kids do well if they can. Through the acronym of “DODGER PRIDE” I hit the following points:

F
ort Dodge Senior High offers online
course work through Edgenuity, or
E2020, for an increasing number of students each year. In the school year 20132014 students earned 550 credits; in 2014
-2015 students earned 703 credits and in
this last year our students earned 814
credits. Our Alternative School provides
most of the online learning opportunities
but students are also able to use our Student Achievement Center and study hall
to work on completing online courses.
One advantage to online courses is that
students can work on them anywhere
there is internet. A parent or student
that is interested in online coursework is
encouraged to contact the students
counselor to find out more. The policies
and procedures governing online coursework are outlined on page of the student
course catalog. We are happy to provide
varied learning opportunities for our
students!

Welcome New Teachers
H
i! I'm Mal Krohn and I
will be teaching the AtRisk Girls' Program this year. I
spent the last 5 years teaching
math and science at a Des
Moines middle school. I recently received my Masters in Educational Leadership from Drake University, where I
also did my undergraduate work. I am super excited
for the opportunity to go back to my small town
roots after living for so long in the big city and can't
wait to get to know Fort Dodge and its inspiring students.

Graduated in 2016 (YIKES) from
Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA
(Eastern Iowa)
During college, I studied Spanish and Education in Mexico, Spain, Belize, and Costa Rica
This summer I...traveled to Cuba with my dad, visited
my girlfriend in Colorado at the theatre where she was
working and saw five different plays in one week, scrubbed
a lot of toilets (and had some fun along the way) when I
cleaned apartments and houses for rental turnover in
Ames :), and helped facilitate a volunteer event in Ames to
pick, shuck, boil, cut, freeze, and distribute to community
members in need over a TON of donated sweetcorn
I love to watch Netflix and to spend time with family and
friends This fall I'm excited to support my students in any
way I can, to connect with parents and guardians, to engage my students in the Spanish language by making connections with the cultures of various Spanish-speaking
countries, and to have fun together. ¡Nos vemos pronto!

I
grew up and went to high
school in Newton, IA where my
dad taught biology for many
years. I got my teaching degree
at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, IA. I have five years
experience teaching biology and anatomy and physiology at Iowa Mennonite School near Iowa City. I
appreciate the opportunity to teach at Fort Dodge
Senior High, and am looking forward to this year.
I
graduated from high school at Manson Northwest Webster. I received
my nursing degree through Iowa Central Community College. I have been
working as an RN for five years mostly
in OB-GYN and Family Practice. I have
two children. Abel (2 years old) and
Kora (8 months old). I enjoy reading books or doing anything
outdoors. I am excited to be able to work in and be part of the
community that I live in and to teach students about the health
care industry.

DODGER
PRIDE all the way!
Working with educators, we have spent much time around creating our 2016-2017 FDSH Goals and a 4-Year Plan called our
“20/20 Vision”. The use of our district mission statement, district vision statement, district core beliefs, FDSH student
achievement data and our end of the year surveys from FDSH
students and FDSH staff have been the driving force behind this
work. Identifying what and how we will measure these goals
has been a process that we should be able to complete in the
next week that will guide our work as a building.
In addition, many conversations are being held about competency-based education (CBE), Dodger Time, Cooperative Teaching, Common Assessments, Positive Behavior Support Systems,
facility upgrades, and changing negative perceptions. Been a
great month of setting the stage for some exciting things down
the road.
