P.A.C.E. FEATURED ATHLETE
NAME: HAYLEY SHEARER
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RUNNING WITH P.A.C.E.?
I think about two years, maybe a bit more. I started with a summer clinic and just didn’t stop.
WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO TRAIN WITH P.A.C.E.?
Oh geeze, where does a girl start with all the reasons I run with PACE? Firstly, Coach Rene has built a
community jam-packed with some of the most talented, brilliant, supportive leaders & runners I have
ever ‘run’ across. I spent my youth and university days playing a high caliber team sport - I get what a
working team looks like and feels like. And it is created here. 100%. It’s the best of both worlds – to
have the cohesiveness and unconditional support of a team in an otherwise individual sport. Brilliant.
And besides that, after a couple of bear encounters…. I was sooooo over running alone in the trails 
HOW DO YOU KICK YOUR BUTT OUT THE DOOR ON THE DAYS YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE RUNNING?
Sometimes I stop thinking about it, just gear up and go. A girl can’t get up to only what she ‘feels’ like
doing right?
Other times I take a moment and chill out, get real about the opportunity I have today to use my legs
and my lungs - I know that they want to get move and work hard, it’s the least I can do.
If none of that works, I usually just resort to shameless self beratement. Guilt trips can go a long way….
WHAT IS IN YOUR FEEDING TROFFS (PACK POCKETS) ON YOUR LONG RUNS?
Always Espresso Hammer Gel. And Lara Bars. This year I am making an effort to fill the trough with real
foods so that I can get real nutrition in even when on the fly!
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Last year, hands down my folks. They completely re-calibrated what hope and hard work looks like to
me in 2012 & 2013. They were brilliant and it was beautiful. I laced up and went out on some seriously
gross, dark, rainy Vancouver days last year just thinking about those two and imagining what kind of
people they were going to have to be in that day.
Recently I made a very deliberate resolve to allow myself to be moved and inspired by little, everyday
achievements and moments. Both mine and people around me. It brings powerful distinction to so
many moments in each day. I am able to clearly see dedication, hardwork, generosity and sharing this
way. To say this perspective has changed my life is an understatement  .
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A REST DAY?
Crafting magic in the kitchen! I like to cook (and eat). I also like movies, books, beer, coffee, wine, oh and
of course, dog tricks!
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY TRAINING TOWARDS? PLEASE SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY
SO FAR.
Right now my target is set on a six day stage race in Colorado - the TransRockies Run. It’s in August, so I
have about 7 months between now and then. In that time I am building my fitness and honing in on
some weaker areas so that I can run the best race of my life in August. Yee-Haw!
In the meantime, I will be getting up to great training with my PACE Besties and, definitely, at least one
PACE Mountain Running Camp. The Rocky Mountain running camp was one of the best weekends of my
year in 2013. Hands down. Can’t wait to do it again!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST RUNNING ACCOMPLISHMENT?
That I love it! That’s my accomplishment and all those people around me too.
IF WE WERE SITTING HERE CELEBRATING WHAT A GREAT YEAR IT HAS BEEN FOR YOU, WHAT WOULD
YOU SAY CONTRIBUTED TO THAT?
Hands down my PACE peeps. These people are so wonderful. I honestly couldn’t even imagine where I
would be without them. I owe them so much, they have no idea 
WHAT IS YOUR SUPERPOWER OR SPIRIT ANIMAL?
Happy-Place-Superpower! To dig out of the darkies and move over to the sunnies. Using thoughts to
power the body is the ultimate superpower!
