- Linked to different emotional responses.
- Implications for different forms of discrimination.
- Applied to different categories of people.

- Specific prejudice against people who appear “non-normal.”
- (Disgust; disease-connoting cognitions; avoidance).
- This prejudice exaggerated when feel vulnerable to infection.
- Disease threat also contributes to xenophobia.
- Example: Pregnancy and ethnocentrism.
- Example: Disease threat and immigration attitudes (Faulkner et al., 2004).
- Prejudice reduced when feel less vulnerable to infection.
