APRIL EVENTS
Dear PVNS Families…
Safety in school is essential, especially now. With
spring weather arriving, we will again practice Fire
Drills so that students know how to exit our
building quickly and quietly at the sound of our fire
bell. We were very quick at getting out in the fall
and I am sure we will be even faster now. Practice
is so important to help children get used to new
sounds and new routines.
In April, we will hold two “Lock Down” drills. For
our young students, this will simply mean a time to
listen carefully to their teacher, be as quiet as
possible and sit in a special place in their
classroom. It will not take longer than 5 minutes.
There is not a need for children this age to know
why we practice Lock Downs, just that they need
to follow directions and listen. For teachers, the
practice is necessary so that we can have a plan in
place should we ever need it.
Officer Michael Favata, from the Penfield Crime
Prevention Unit, came in to walk me through a
Lock Down and answer my questions. He spent
time checking our building from the outside, as
well as all of our classrooms. At our staff meeting
last week, the teachers were instructed about
Lock Down procedure and watched a video to help
answer any questions they have about what to do
during that situation. We are ready to practice!

Amy DeSario and Miss Libby will be teaching our 4

students. Miss Amy (Music) will be helping in both
classes. Activities will include Martial Arts, the

gardening! Make sure to return your reservation as
class size is limited!
Early Drop-Off
In February, we sent home information about our
“Early Drop Off Program” for the 2017-2018 school
year. If you would like the opportunity to drop
your child off at school at 8:30 (for an additional
fee), you may be interested. We have heard from a
few families but would need more responses to
put the program into place. We will send home the
information with your child if you request it.
If you are interested, please email me:

We are growing!
There has been an increased interest in our
“Transitional Kindergarten Program” and
as a result, we will offer a second section
for the 2017-2018 school year. Transitional
Kindergarten is a program for students
turning 5 by December 1st. It gives
students an extra year- building the bridge
between preschool and kindergarten. We
have just a few spots left. If you know of a
family who would be interested, please
send them our way!
4 Day 4s Astronauts
Our 4 Day 4s became “Space Cases” this
month. They had astronaut training by
exercising to get fit (astronauts must be in
good shape) and dodging asteroids while
wearing an astronaut vest in the gym. They
had to pick-up moon rock samples using
tweezers and oven mitts (astronauts must
have good fine-motor skills). They made solar
system bracelets, Crater Cake and rockets.
They read several books (astronauts must be
good readers) such as- Zoo in the Sky by
Jacqueline Mitton and If You Decide to go to
the Moon, by Faith McMulty. So many great
things going on in our 4 Day 4s program!
