Progress Reports:
Progress reports will be sent on the 1st and 15th of the month starting on September 1st.
Rooster Time
Rooster Time classes will soon be working in smaller reading groups. There will be 3 or
4 reading groups in each Rooster Time class. We are working on various reading skills in
small groups. Students should always have a book to read for AR points with them in class.
REMEMBER, Rooster Time grade is about half AR points. Your child needs 10 AR points by
the end of each quarter.
Science-Social Studies--Mr. Adamczyk
S.S.In social studies we will start off with location and how to use longitude and latitude lines to
find locations on a map. We will learn the cardinal directions and how to give locations of a
place by relative and absolute location.
ScienceIn science we will be starting with Scientific Method and what skills scientists use to
complete the scientific method. We will do a couple labs with this section. Students will build
a foil boat to see whose boat can hold the most pennies. We will also do a couple of activities
using scientific skills.
Math--Mrs. Griffith
Welcome to the 2011-12 school year! I am looking forward to working with your son/
daughter this year in math. Students will become familiar with the classroom routines in the
first two weeks and we should get a good start with our Accelerated Math. I will be sending
more information home about Accelerated Math, our McDougal Littell Math Course 1 series,
and the website that goes along with our textbook that I feel is very helpful.
If your son/daughter did not get the Renaissance Home Connect sheet during Open House,
this will be sent home the first day of school. This paper will have the user name and
password for your child on it as well as the website that will enable you to view the progress
that your child is doing with Accelerated Math and Accelerated Reading.
I enjoyed visiting with those of you that were able to make it to the Open House and
look forward to meeting those of you that were unable to attend. I am excited to get the
opportunity to watch your child progress through the new school year!
Communication Arts--Ms. Smith
Welcome back to a new and exciting year! To get things started, we will cover basic
classroom routines and procedures so students know what will always be expected of
them. They will receive a literature textbook which should be kept at home to use with
any homework assignments. There will be additional textbooks provided for use in class,
so students will not have to carry their books back and forth. Within the first few days of
school, students will set a personal reading goal for first quarter. Be sure to ask them what
their goal is so you can help them along the way! I have many new and exciting ideas I
would like to use in the classroom this year, and I hope your child will enjoy them. I look
forward to getting to know each student this year, and I know we will learn a lot together.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.
Ms. Love
I would like to welcome all back to an exciting new year. I'm looking forward to working
with each and everyone of you.
This year student's will earn rewards throughout the day for positive choices made. Rewards
include technology use, games, snacks, drinks, etc. This will be an on going list to promote
self control and respect for self and others. Parents please feel free to donate any items that
would be exciting to earn as a reward.
This will be an exciting year. We have a new teaching assistant in our room, Mrs. Cotter. She
is a local to Pleasant Hill. She has a child entering kindergarten and a senior in high school.
Please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone. Again, I am looking forward to working
with all of you.
