Cedar AM Hand-Stamped Initials Mobile
Our Cedar morning children each stamped their initials and a small symbol of their
choice into the metal pendants that make up this hanging kinetic work of art. The
children loved stamping the metal using hammers and punches! The driftwood base
comes from Lytle Beach. This mobile could hang indoors or outdoors; the copper
and brass pendants will take on a pretty verdigris patina when exposed to the
elements. Media: copper, brass, driftwood, and hemp twine.

Heart and Hands 2015 Kinder Quilt
“Of all things love is the most potent,” said Maria Montessori. A Montessori
classroom is a place of freedom and creativity, a place where nothing is “off-limits,” a
place where the heart and hands come together with joy. Your kindergartners traced
their hands on cloth, then were given free reign to design it:
“I get to draw it however I want?”
“I can use all the colors?”
Happy hands took to the task, pausing now and then for inspection, and finally,
setting it aside when the work was complete. The result is a kaleidoscope of brilliant
colors, each child’s hand like a window into their creative spirit. Representing over
300 hours of work from volunteers, place this lovingly created quilt over your
sleeping kindergartner as you return home tonight, cuddle up beneath it with books
on a rainy afternoon, or hang it in your child’s room as a keepsake of their special
time at MCS.
