Tom Forrestall
Tom Forrestall was born in the Annapolis Valley of
Nova Scotia. He grew up in Middleton and Dartmouth,
and attended art classes at the Nova Scotia College of
Art and Design.
In 1954 Tom was awarded an entrance scholarship to
the Fine Arts Faculty at Mount Allison University from
which he graduated in 1958. In the same year he
received a Canada Council Grant for independent
study (one of the first granted) and traveled
throughout Europe. In 1958 he married Natalie Leblanc,
mother of his seven children. In 1959 he became the
assistant curator of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in
Fredericton, New Brunswick. In 1960 he received his

workshop will take you from start to finish in this

making Egg Tempera paint, mixing colour pigments
with egg yolk and water, and will be given the
freedom to create several rough drawings before they
zero in on what they want to paint. Renowned artist
and instructor, Tom Forrestall, will share his years of
experience, techniques, and a story or two in this
week-long workshop. Egg Tempera paintings from
the first century still exist.

Tom’s principal media has been Egg Tempera and
watercolour. His work has been presented nationally
and internationally including solo exhibitions at
Canada House in London, England; the National
Museum of Art in Sofia, Bulgaria; the National Museum
of Art in Romania; and National Museum of Modern
Art, Budapest. His work is also found in collections at
the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia; Rideau Hall, Ottawa;
Musee d’art Contemporain, Montreal, the Ondaatje
Corporation in Toronto; the National Gallery of Canada;
the Art Gallery of Ontario; the National Gallery of
Hungary and The Pasha of Marrakech, Morocco.
Tom Forrestall has received the Order of Canada; the
Queens Silver Jubilee Medal; Honourary Doctorate of
Fine Art from University of Kings College and Mount
Allison University and was a Honourary Governor of
