Dress Code Policy

2016-17 Standard School Attire
Gra-Mar Middle Prep will maintain a professional learning environment. The SSA Policy will be enforced
on the first day of school until the last day of school. (Aug. 5, 2016- May 24, 2017)
Shirt options:
 Shirts must have a collar. Shirts can be any solid color. (If the shirt has a logo, the logo must not be
larger than 1 inch.)
 Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
 Dresses and jumpers must be a solid color and must be longer than the longest fingertip.
 Gra-Mar “Spirit wear” hoodies and t-shirts can be worn every day during the school hours.
 Light weight jackets can be worn to school.
 Heavy jackets can be worn but must be placed in the locker upon entering the building.
Pants/Skirts/Shorts:

Colors: Grey, Navy, Black, any shade of Khaki, and denim blue jeans (blue only).

Joggers can be worn. However, pants should not be tucked in socks and tied with a rubber band.

All skirts and shorts must be longer than the longest fingertip.

Tights must be solid (navy, black and any shade of khaki), and must be worn under an appropriate SSA
bottom (color, style and length).

Leggings are not pants and should not be worn in the place of pants. Sweat pants should not be worn.

All pants must be worn at the waist. (No sagging or low riding)

Jumpers & dresses should be solid (navy, grey, black, and any shade of khaki) and worn with a collar shirt.
Back Packs/Purses:
 Small cross body purses and back packs must be placed in the locker and remain there until the end
of the day.
Identification:
 Every student is issued an ID badge at the beginning of the school year.
 The ID badge is a part of SSA and must be in the student’s possession, at all times.
 Replacement ID badges cost $3.
Non-Approved SSA-These items are not acceptable and should not be worn:
Hats, jeans or shirts with rips, holes, inappropriate messages, sagging or tight fitting, inappropriate
language/pictures/buttons on clothing, chains attached to the pants, fishnet hose, bulky jewelry or belt
buckle, bulky or over-sized coats/jackets, flip flops, rubber bands, visible piercings, bandanas, scarves,
bonnets, do-rags, hair nets, house shoes/slippers, hoods on the head, pajamas, and any apparel that can be
considered gang-related. Plus, other items as identified in District SSA policy.
Special Provisions:
Gra-Mar Middle Prep will provide reasonable accommodation to students whose bona fide religious belief,
medical condition, or disability requires special clothing.
Consequences:
Disciplinary action will be enforced in accordance with school and district policy.
*The SSA policy can be modified at administration discretion.
“Freedom Fridays”
School Spirit “Freedom Fridays” will be pre-determined by Administration.
During the 2016-2017 school year, students will be given opportunities to wear jeans or any Gra-Mar
sanctioned spirit wear, purchased through Gra-Mar or printed with Gra-Mar permission.
The “Freedom Fridays” expectations/guidelines will be reviewed with all students during the month of
August.

Expectations/Guidelines:
 Students can wear any color jeans.
 Students can wear any color shirt, favorite college shirt, (TSU, Belmont, MTSU, Duke, etc), or GraMar spirit wear shirt.
 Students should not wear jeans or shirts with rips, holes, inappropriate messages, sagging or tight
fitting.
 Students should not wear bulky jewelry or bulky belt buckle.
If a student does not wish to participate in “Freedom Friday”, then they must follow the Dress Code/SSA
Policy.
