PERSONAL BANKING
BUSINESS BANKING
WEALTH MANAGEMENT
Message From the Chairman and the President
Helping families purchase their first homes, financing expansions of local businesses, providing
outstanding service to thousands of customers and supporting our communities. That’s what we
do at Bank of New Hampshire. We are a leading, independent, mutually owned bank focused
solely on New Hampshire and the success of our customers and the communities we serve. With
22 offices throughout the state, we are New Hampshire’s local bank with over 280 dedicated
employees serving customers in communities large and small. Since our founding 184 years ago,
we have been committed to providing the best in banking services with a high level of personal
service and the financial strength you can count on for all your financial needs.
We are pleased to report that Bank of New Hampshire completed another successful year of
growth and solid profitability. At June 30, 2015, assets totaled $1.24 billion, an increase of
$21 million over the prior year. Deposits also reached a record $995.2 million at year end. As New
Hampshire’s economy continued to strengthen, we experienced increasing demand for credit to
assist our customers in meeting their goals. We are pleased to be one of New Hampshire’s leading
mortgage lenders. During the past year, Bank of New Hampshire provided over 771 residential
mortgages totaling over $110.1 million. We also significantly expanded our commercial banking
capabilities and our commercial bankers were busy providing a wide variety of commercial loans
and treasury management services to our customers. As of June 30th, commercial loans outstanding
reached a record $407 million, an increase of $16 million over last year. Whether a business is large
and complex or more modest in size, we have the products, services and expertise to meet the
needs of any business, not-for-profit organization, educational institution or municipality.
With over $601 million in assets in our care, the Wealth Management division is a leader in
managing our clients’ investments and helping them achieve their financial goals. We work
closely with our clients to help them establish their objectives and define their personal
investment styles. Strategies are then implemented by our experienced trust and investment
officers in a highly personalized and tailored approach. Companies throughout the state
also look to us to manage their employee retirement plans. Our Retirement Plan Services
professionals have the expertise and competitive products to successfully meet the needs
of any company for its employee retirement plans, from simple to complex.
In banking, financial strength is paramount. In addition to solid earnings, Bank of New Hampshire’s
capital of over $140 million is a solid foundation upon which the bank is built. Our common
equity ratio of 14.01% and our total capital ratio of 15.34% are far in excess of all regulatory
requirements to be considered “well capitalized” by the FDIC. As a mutual bank without
stockholders, all of our earnings are reinvested in the capital of the bank to improve our
products and services for the benefit of our customers and communities.
Part of our mission is to be a good corporate citizen and partner in the communities we serve.
To that end, Bank of New Hampshire invested over $540,000 in charitable and community
1
initiatives to help make our state a great place to live and work. In addition to our financial
support, employees volunteered more than 10,800 hours in community service activities across
the state. We are proud of our civic leadership and community support and know that we will
only be successful if our communities thrive and remain strong.
This past year, we were saddened by the passing of Paul L. Normandin and John F. Goddard, Jr.
who served our bank with distinction for many years. Paul was elected a Corporator in 1965, a
Director in 1968 and served as Chairman from 1988-2005, retiring from the Board in 2006. John
was elected a Corporator in 1969, a Director in 1971 and retired in 1997. Both continued to stay
connected to Bank of New Hampshire as Senior Directors during their retirements. Paul and John
provided outstanding leadership to our bank and we honor them for their lasting contributions
to our growth and success. They will be deeply missed.
In closing, we would like to thank all of our employees for their dedication and hard work. We
can only be as good as the people on our team and we are proud that we have the best, most
professional and dedicated group of employees of any bank in the state. We are also grateful to
our Directors and Corporators for their sound advice and counsel, which helps ensure that Bank
of New Hampshire remains a strong, independent, mutual banking organization.
After many years in the doldrums, the New Hampshire economy seems to be perking up.
Unemployment is now below 4% and there are many signs that we have recovered from the
depths of the last recession. As we look toward the future, Bank of New Hampshire will continue to
play a key role in the growth, development and prosperity of the Granite State. That’s our pledge.
Sincerely,
Bruce D. Clow
Chairman of the Board
