IBDP
BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT FIELD TRIP
O
n 14th March, the students of IBDP
1 along with Ms. Kinnari visited
Britannia
Biscuit
factory
at
Khopoli. We were full of excitement as we
were going to visit a reputed company like
Britannia. On entering the factory, we were
handed over a cap and were asked to remove
our watches, bracelets etc… When we entered
the factory we saw two huge machines in which
the biscuits were being made. This unit was
producing tiger biscuits and Marie biscuits. The
entire process of raw material being converted
into biscuits was explained beautifully by the
Production Manager. The company uses Batch
production along with Flow production for optimum use of resources. The first stage was the
trucks arriving and the flour was getting emptied and was checked. There were machines which
emptied the sacks and which passed the flour to different machines in the factory. The machines
also empty sugar sacks. Through few pipes the sugar was passed on according to the quantity
needed. Then the flour and sugar were mixed according to the amount needed for the particular
biscuit and then it was passed on in the baking machines. The biscuits were then baked. Through
out the process, most importance was given to the quality. Then the packaging process took
place. They used sophisticated machinery for packing the biscuits. The trucks were loaded with
the boxes using conveyor belt. We could easily relate to some of the terms used as we have
studied them in our class. The visit was surely educational.
