Dear Jefferson Families, Jefferson is a G3 School! What does “G3” mean? The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is initiating the 3rd group of schools who will transform teaching and learning through the use of digital tools and resources. During the 2017-2018 school year, staff will prepare a healthy digital culture for your child(ren). Starting in 1st quarter, 2017, all students will receive a Chromebook to use at school. These devices will be used for learning purposes only. Devices will have access to the internet and applications to help meet the learning needs of your child(ren). Students will have a balanced day and will only access a digital device when it is the best tool for the learning target. This is a great partnership opportunity for us to work together on appropriate use of digital devices. We encourage you to start talking to your child(ren) about online safety as we start to provide lessons on digital citizenship. Below are a few resources that can support this process: ● www.commonsensemedia.org: parent resource with practical digital safety tips ● www.netsmartzkids.org: online safety videos While completing the on-line enrollment, MMSD will ask you to read the Family Digital Device Guidelines or watch a 3 minute video on the key points. Upon completion, an electronic agreement will be available that will enable your child to use the chromebook in school. For more information, visit www.mmsd.org/ignite and click on “Families.” A couple of changes for next year: Students will need a 3 inch binder to organize classroom materials, and backpacks will be stored in the students’ lockers throughout the day. We look forward to our partnership as we create responsible, respectful, and safe children living in the digital age! Sincerely, Isaac Kirkwood Principal
