Dear Sir :-We hereby authorise YOU to guarantee THEMARTINSENOUR
PAINT(except a few dark shades that cannot be prepared
from pure lead and zinc alone), to be 100%pure White Lead, pure
Oxide of Zinc, pure Linseed Oil, pure Colors and Turpentine Dryer
and to be entirely free from adulteration or substitution, and sold
subject to chemical analysis.

Our agents are often asked for advice on how to apply THE
MARTIN-SENOURPAINT. The following if carried out will often
avoid unsatisfactory results for which the goods are sometimes
wrongfully condemned.
S e e that the paint is properly stirred from the bottom of the
can, by first pouring off the liquid and stirring the pigment with a
paddle about two inches wide and twelve inches long, until it is all of
a smooth consistency, then gradually add the oil and stir it until the
entire contents of the can is uniform
S e e that all knots are covered with shellac, putty all nail holes.
Scrape off all loose or scaly paint.
Do not use cheap primers and above all avoid the use of Ochres
for priming.
For priming use THEMARTIN-SENOUR PAINT
by adding one
quart of boied oil to each gallon.
Do not add dryers or Japans.
Do not paint in wet or frosty weather, or on green or sappy
lumber.
Brush out the paint like lead and oil.
Two thin coats will wear longer than two heavy coats.
Allow at least three days between coats.
Do not paint over a surface that is covered with soot or grease,
Cracking and scaling is often the result of improper undercoats,
such as cheap primers, wet undercoats, or moisture in the lumber.
This is the oldest brand of absolutely pure mixed paint on the
market. It is made from pure white lead and zinc and linseed oil, with
necessary pigments for color. No whiting, barytes, Paris white, or
other aldulterants. It is thinned with pure linseed oil, turpentine and
dryer and entirely free from benzine, water and alkali.
It costs a little more per gallon, but will cover more surface.
Two gallons will do as much work as three of adulterated paints. It
will make a better appearing job and wear longer.

thinning. It is the best paint that can be made and while the first cost may be a little more than some of the cheaper brands of paint

than with a cheap and adulterated paint.
For example: a building containing 4000 square feet will require 10 gallon of THE MARTINSENOUR
PAINT, (one gallon covers
400 to 450 square feet) a t $2.00 per gallon = $20
To paint a building containlng 4000 square feet with an adulterated paint
$23.33. It costs no more to apply THE
covering 300 to 350 square feet per gallon, would require 131/3 gallons at $1.75 per gallon
