A Day in Math 7

A Day in Math 7
Today’s Learning Targets: 1.) To plot and identify ordered pairs in a coordinate plane. 2.) To interpret shapes plotted on a coordinate plane and evaluate areas and perimeters. Class Notes: 1.) Coordinate Plane: Plane overlaid with two perpendicular number lines. (Cartesian plane) 2.) X-‐axis: Horizontal number line 3.) Y-‐axis: Vertical number line 4.) Vertical: Up/Down 5.) Horizontal: Left/Right 6.) Quadrant: One of four sections on a coordinate plane Quadrant II Quadrant I Quadrant III Quadrant IV 7.) Ordered Pair: A pair of numbers that represents a point on a coordinate plane 8.) Plot: To graph a point 9.) Origin: (0,0) Point where x-‐axis and y-‐axis intersect Learning Activities: 1.) “My Doctor Told Me to Lose 5000 kg” (Graphing Practice) 2.) Graphing On the Coordinate Plane (3-‐2 Problem Solving) 3.) IXL Section S1, S2 S1: http://www.ixl.com/math/grade-‐7/points-‐on-‐

asurement/coordinateplane/quiz/ 5.) Theodorus Wheel Wrapping it Up: 1) Have I met the learning targets? What could I use more practice with? I have met the learning targets. I could use more practice with plotting many points on a graph. 2) There were three different learning approaches in this lesson: teacher instruction, paper and pencil work, and online practice. Which do you like best? Which helps you the most? My favorite learning approach out of the three was online practice because I could complete it at any time and it really drilled ideas into my head. 3) What are you most proud of this trimester in math? In this trimester, I am most proud of my Unit Test score. I scored 100% on it (41 out of 41 points). 4) What do you need to work on in math during the next trimester? During the next trimester, I need to work on studying for tests a little more.
