Flower Descriptions
Large Crocus – Colorful crocus are a first sign of spring! Good for borders or edging; in small or
large group plantings. They will spread (a.k.a. naturalizing) in the grass, woodlands, slopes, under
trees. Deer resistant.
Dutch Iris – Have a mix of upright and downward curving petals that often reveal contrasting colors.
These showy flowers have a light, airy character that lend beauty to landscaping and floral
arrangements. Deer proof.
Daffodils and Narcissi – These wonderful flowers boast hardiness, deer resistance, tolerant of full
sun to shade and look as great in a vase as in the garden. Narcissus is the botanical name for all
daffodils; therefore all daffodil are narcissus, but most people have come to use the term daffodil
when talking about large trumpet shaped flowers and narcissi when talking about smaller cupped
flowers.
Tulips – Tulip bulbs were once so valuable they were used as money! The tulip family offers a wide
selection such as Kaufmanniana, Fosteriana, Darwin, Triumph, Single Early/Late, Double
Early/Late, and the list goes on. Most tulips do not naturalize but they will return year after year in the
same bed.
Hyacinths/Muscari – Ideal for borders, rock gardens, naturalizing, or co-planting with tulips or
daffodils. Hyacinth petals curve out while muscari (aka grape hyacinth) resemble a cone shaped
bunch of grapes. If left undisturbed, they multiply rapidly. May also be forced indoors. Deer resistant.
Alliums – Care free and rewarding, deer resistant, make excellent cut flowers. They will tolerate
poor garden soil; once established they will naturalize easily.
Chionodoxa – These flowers are among the first bulbs to bloom in early spring. Growing
approximately 6”
tall, once it becomes time to cut your grass for the first time these flowers will have already created a
nice blanket on your grass.
Snowdrops – These bulbs produce one small flower that hangs down like a “snowdrop” until it
blooms. These miraculous flowers even take to their name, sometimes not even waiting for the snow
to melt before pushing up out of the ground.
Bulb Care Fertilizer – A mild organic fertilizer. A 3.5 pound bag will cover 87.5 square feet.
