Happy (almost) New Year!
I hope that each and every one of you had a very Merry Christmas! It is so wonderful to celebrate
the birth of Jesus and the gifts of Peace, Hope, Joy and Love that God has given to us.
As we approach the New Year, many of us will contemplate the tradition of “New Year’s
Resolutions.” What will we focus on this year? Being more kind, more healthy, more patient,
more generous? The list goes on and on…and these are all wonderful goals.
To be honest, I’ve never been one to make a list and stick with it for too long. I have any
number of excuses: my list is too long, I’m too busy to focus on my resolutions, I’m too lazy
(!) to deal with the long list of ways in which I can better myself. The list of excuses goes on
and on as well.
But this year I have a new strategy, embodied around the idea of SIMPLICITY.
This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family so it is natural to recall Pope Francis’ recent advice to families: to “…always live in faith and simplicity, like the Holy Family of
Nazareth.”
I have also found other meaningful advice:
“Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify.” ~ Henry David Thoreau.
“There is no greatness where there is not simplicity, goodness, and truth.” ~ Leo Tolstoy
These quotations resonate with me. I am going to focus on the simple, ordinary things in life
and try to “de-clutter.” I am going to let go of the little things in my life that grow larger than
life and so derail me from enjoying those simple things. Life is not perfect. God certainly
understands that and forgives us for our shortcomings.
I wish you a healthy, happy and safe new year, filled with God’s many blessings!
Blessings, Michelle Wasielewski

Sacred Heart School 8th Grade Service Project
The 8th graders at Sacred Heart School continued their annual tradition of shopping for basic necessities and Christmas gifts for families spending the holidays at PADS family shelter in LakeCounty. The
groups delivered their packages to PADS this past Saturday, putting smiles on the faces of everyone
there! This class began this project when they were in 6th grade and have continued for the past
several holidays to honor the generosity and kindness of their classmate Chloe Sawma.
Year-End Giving
When thinking about your year-end charitable gifts, please don’t forget the Nite Lites Advanced Donor Campaign. Your generous support is essential to the success of this year’s Nite Lites – Sweet Home Chicago. We depend on the Advance Donor
Campaign to cover many of the startup costs of this important annual parish benefit, and hope that you will consider making a
tax deductible contribution before December 31. In addition to the warm feeling you get when you donate, you will also
eceive one complimentary admission ticket to Nite Lites 2014 – Sweet Home Chicago for every $100 donated. Donor
envelopes were mailed to all parish families at the end of October. However, in case you misplaced yours, there are additional
envelopes in the back of church.
Please contact Maria Anderson at 847-989-6261 with any questions, and THANK YOU for your continued strong support.

Guidelines for Gifting Securities
For the convenience of those who wish to donate securities to Sacred Heart,
the Church maintains an account relationship with Morgan Stanley Smith
Barney, DTC #0015 Account 628-153544-381. If you wish to make a tax-deductible
contribution of securities, it is necessary that your securities be transferred to that
account to
complete the gift.
Do not sell the securities while they are still registered in your name, or you will
incur the capital gains tax.
In order to receive due credit and confirmation for the tax-deductible contribution, it
is important to notify Michelle Wasielewski, Business Manager at Sacred Heart
(847.446.0856), or Jennifer Huns at Smith Barney at (312.648.3568) of your intentions
prior to issuing instructions to your broker.
Throughout the year, your generosity helps keep your parish solvent while at
the same time, helps the parish staff to provide a place of worship, education and
community.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful gift which makes it all
possible!
