Popular in the Persian, Hispanic and Indian communities, the Sweet
Lime is light green in color with a yellow tint when completely mature,
and ranges in size from 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Containing much less
acid than ordinary limes, Sweet Limes have a sweet, mild flavor and are
generally used for their juice.
Because they contain very little acid, they are much easier on the stomach,
and are considered to have therapeutic value. Much esteemed in India, the
Near East, Iran and Latin America, many value the Sweet Lime for its medicinal values in the prevention and treatment of cold, flu and fevers.
Seasonal Availability
The Sweet Lime traditionally blooms in the California desert during the
late Winter and early Spring, with mature fruit available from October
through February.
Size of Fruit
Sweet Limes range in size from Large (2” in diameter), Jumbo (2.25” in
diameter), and Mammoth (2.5” in diameter), to Colossal (3” in diameter).
Packaging Information
Sweet Limes are packed according to size in 38 to 40 lb. citrus cartons.
The Large limes are packed at approximately 160 per box, the Jumbo at
approximately 130 per box, the Mammoth at approximately 91 per box
and the Colossal at approximately 80 per box. There are 54 boxes per
pallet, with 6 layers of 9 boxes to each layer.
